I think that food at wdw is just okay..nothing all that wonderful

except for a select few places, I don't really find the food all that 4 star quality..

granted it is for the most part good...and being that I am in a resort and it will be aDo slight bit overpriced...I accept that.

but, I guess what I am saying...when I look forward to visiting wdw ...

it is certaintly not for the food but rather the attractions.....

I think it all depends on where you are from. I'm from a very small town and we don't even have Olive Garden. To us eating at Disney is wonderful because to eat out here you go to McDonalds. Its really sad.

That being said I find Le Cellier, California Grill, and even the burgers at Beaches and Cream to be excellent food.

Now if you live in New York or D.C. I can imagine you not being to thrilled.

We all have our opinions, and I also don't go to WDW just for the food...although it is something that I look forward to. I am from NYC and we have plenty of great food here ( way more overpriced than WDW in many places IMO), but I love the total atmosphere of being at Disney and indulging in good food. We all enjoy different things, but DF and I usually come back feeling a little fatter, so I guess it means we definately enjoy it. ;)

I would say the food at WDW does vary but in general it is not gourmet dining. I am a business traveler that eats out several times per week and I would say that WDW is above average when compared to like establishments. If you are in a major US city, you certainly can find better restaurants than what you will find at WDW. What makes dining at WDW enjoyable, is the atmosphere. Seeing your kids interact with characters or watching fireworks going off over MK, are absolutely worth it. There are some restaurants I would avoid and some that I really enjoy. I think the food at MK in general is below average. The best restaurants at WDW tend to be at the hotels.

I was at Seaworld last year and was reminded just how much better the food was at WDW. That average hamburger at Pecos Bills is so much better then the garbage they sell at Seaworld. Then again, I ate at a great italian restaurant in the gas light district last week in San Diego that is much better than Alfredo's in EPCOT.

The same thing could also be said about the hotels/resorts of WDW. It is the complete package that makes WDW great.

I agree that it's not 4 star.

That being said, my preferences don't run towards the exotic or unusual.....though we really enjoyed Boma.

We enjoy seafood, but admittedly don't live near a coast, so we probably don't know what it's like to eat really fresh seafood........so we enjoy Coral Reef, even though I've read reviews that said as far as seafood goes it isn't the best you can get.......we like the big tank too.

We like familiar food........steak, burgers, Rainforest Cafe (we have one nearby), so we enjoy those same things at WDW, and found the quality similar to what we are accustomed to (better, at Le Cellier).

We also like character dining..........we don't go to those buffets for the food, but to have a chance to meet characters in a seated, climate-controlled environment.

So, we go for the dining, but not really for the food.........more the atmosphere and experiences around the food.

We are not picky eaters. A huge part of our trip is the dining. Some of the best meals we've ever eaten were at WDW. Le Cellier, Boma, San Angel Inn, Concourse Steakhouse, Chefs de France, Brown Derby, 1900 Park Fare... The only bad meal we've ever experienced was last trip at Yakitori House and that probably had something to do with feeling nauseated from just riding Mission:Space. ;)

Well, I just have to say that food at Disney World tastes better to me because I'm at DISNEY WORLD! Also, I didn't have to COOK it! So for me, it's just a big part of my vacation. Not 5 star, but I enjoy it all none-the-less.

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I am from New York City and we have TONS of great restaurants to choose from here...a lot more expensive than WDW, honestly!!!! But when I go to WDW, dining is a HUGE part of the experience for me. Admitedly, there are some places that are just so-so, but for the most part, all of the sit downs have so far been GREAT! (Le Cellier, Alfredo's (although I have definitely had better Italian in NYC!), San Angel Inn, 'Ohana, Concourse Steak House, all of the character buffets...) I think it's the whole Disney EXPERIENCE that makes the food taste even better. And like another poster said, I DON'T HAVE TO COOK IT!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

I agree that most WDW food is just okay. Some of the restaurants have practices that would never fly in the real world. Having to ask for rolls when in the past they were automatically included, getting cheap margarine instead of butter, non-dairy creamer instead of half & half, and paying $32 for a plate of scrambled eggs and other average breakfast fare are a few examples of that.

We have a few places we always enjoy eating at, but some of them have been declining in quality and/or changed over to "all characters all day" in the past few years.

WDW food isn't the best in the world, but it's probably the only time I'm going to go out of my way to eat in a restaurant everyday for a week, and the only chance I'll get to try some cuisines (like African or Moroccan), so the food's a big part of my holiday!

Besides, the steak might not be the best in the world, but where else can you eat your steak inside a castle?? :)

The best things about WDW dining are...

You dont have to cook or clean up yourself :rotfl2:
The atmosphere at some places like WCC, CMs and 50sPT :wizard:
AND *********************************

YOU ARE AT WDW (arent the rides, shows etc much more important?) :thumbsup2

I would say that dinning plays a big part in our WDW trips. We have been so many times that we always enjoy eating at some of our favorites or eating at some new ones. There are some first class places to eat like California Grill, Jiko, Le Cellier etc.

I don't find the food at WDW overpriced, we live on Long Island, and eat out often in NYC and LI...the food is much less comparing upscale to upscale.

I guess it all depends on where you eat. We love the dinners in our favorite restaurants. We always eat in the same places and find them to be consistantly excellent over the years. Some of our must do's..V&A's, Citricos, CG, Brown Derby. We always get reverse sticker shock when the bill comes, we are so accoustomed to high prices that we are surprised when the bill is much less than we anticipated.

Maybe WDW prices their food on some kind of national average...where we live must be on the high side. A visit to the sushi bar for the 2 of us at home is $150.00...and that's casual dining!

We enjoy eating at WDW. I think some of the restaurants are quite good and even the fast food is far better than the average stuff one finds in a mall food court or national chain.

Some of our favorites are Crystal Palace (we'd eat there whether there were characters or not), Boma, Wolfgang Puck, Kona Cafe, Cosmic Rays (I love their veggie burger and toppings bar), Tomorrowland Noodle Station, the new Land food court, Tusker House...

We do look forward to going back to these places trip after trip. I also find Disney's food prices to be quite reasonable compared to other captive audience types of settings. Go to a Six Flags park sometime and you'll know what I mean. At least the food at Disney is varied and good. Most places you're limited to hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken fingers.

I live in Phila and we have GREAT food here; maybe that's why I agree that the food at Disney is not the best. I do want to report that I was at the Dolphin last week and ordered a crab cake sandwich from room service. It came with french fries and may have been the best crab cake sandwich and fries I've ever eaten!!!!
I ate at Coral Reef in Oct '03 and thought it was horrendous. I eat lots of seafood and have had dinner at many of the 4 star restaurants in Phila and was almost shocked at how bad CR was. Also, I think its kind of creepy to eat fish while sitting next to a gigantic fish tank.

I can say I've had some quite good meals at WDW, but honestly the good ones are on par with what I can get here in Seattle. The prices aren't terrible compared with similar restaurants outside the World, and the atmosphere always makes stuff taste better.

While planning my dining is one of the most fun things about going on a WDW vacation, I don't fool myself into thinking it's a foodie destination by any stretch. That said, I have yet to eat at V&A, which I hear can hold its own with any restaurant in the country.

Disney doesn't measure up to the finer establishments in some of the big cities. But the tabs in those can be far more than I've ever paid in Disney. . When I compare Disney restaurants such as California Grill to those of comparable quality in the big cities, I find the price at Disney is lower.

I'm fortunate to live near Chicago, which has some of the finest restaurants anywhere. However, there's something about the magic of WDW--maybe they sprinkle pixie dust in my food?--that makes me love just about everything there! Boma, Ohana's, Kona Cafe, Rose and Crown, Brown Derby--all have been wonderful everytime I've been there.
