Do we need a golf cart?

We are arriving at the Fort on November 13, 2012 later in the day and will be checking out on November 24, 2012. We are staying in a preferred spot. I didn't think it would be that bad to walk to pool, bus stops, quick service etc but now my husband thinks we need a golf cart to ride in. We tried calling Kenny but he is only available from Nov 13-17. We also looked at Disney but didn't call as their prices were way higher than Kenny. I really don't want to spend 400-500 if I don't need to?

So two questions:

1) Do we really need a golf cart??
2) Is there anywhere else to rent one from other than Kenny and Disney that are decent? Or should we try Disney?

Thanks,

78 days to go:cool1::cool1:...not that I am counting anyways lol!

A golf cart is a "nice-to-have" but not a "got-to-have".

The Preferred sites are not close to the pool and campfire area but it's only a 10-minute walk or so and the weather is nice in November - not too hot. And you could take either an orange or yellow bus based on your location and get to the Meadow pool area quickly.

Do you have bikes you could bring? Does the 4 yo have a bike maybe with training wheels?

The golf cart is a several hundred dollar luxury for the length of your entire stay. It's an expensive convenience but some folks get them religiously. Not me though.

PS - other than Kenny and Disney, I'm not familiar with other vendors.

We have been going to FW for 40 years and have yet to feel the need to rent a cart. They look like a pain to me to park, keep dry, charge ,etc. not to mention the outrageous $$'s to rent them.

We have never had a problem walking the pretty paths, or catching the buses. They (the buses) are regular and you seldom have to wait long.

They have been kind of a "fad" the last several years, but there are so many kids allowed to drive them (not by Disney) that some are pretty reckless some times. I really wish they weren't allowed, but Disney makes too much money on them for that ;)

Thanks...I was pretty much leaning towards not having one but DH started reading up on the fort and somewhere he read it would be like a mile walk to anything. I knew I paid for preferred for a reason (that and a 38' camper needs it) I'm kinda glad Kenny was unavailable for most of the trip...or else DH would be signing us up for one.

Why not reserve one for a day that you're hanging out at the Fort. Then you can see if it's a "have to" for you.

Just returned from 12 glorious nights at the fort without a golf cart. We were also in a perfered. 231. The walk to the pool was a little more than 5 minutes but we only went twice. It all depends on your plans once there. We spend most of our time at the parks so it's not worth it. On our last trip we were in the 1500 loop and it was nice to drive the cart to the marina to get the boat and have it waiting for you at the end of the day. But that was all we used it for.

We have only rented a golf cart from Disney, I am not aware of anyone who rents them besides Disney & Kenny. Why don't you try renting one for just a day or so? We don't always rent one the whole time, but we do enjoy having one to ride around in some days.

we are just back from 9 nights at the Fort with no cart and 4 year old grandson most nights. we were in loop 1900 which was a short walk from bus stop. used stroller most nights. did ride bus one stop to pool and back. longest walk was from boat to MK to bus stop and we did it one late night,EMH night. it is do able but allow extra time for just missing bus when having to get somewhere at a certain time. have a great trip.

We rent carts, but mostly to get laundry from the comfort station, go to the pool, over to the movie and campfires. We walk everywhere else. But it's worth it to us because it seems like every time we go to the pool we forget things and would end up walking back to get them. It's definitely not a "need" but nice to have for certain things!
