I love reading that one!!
The things that were hits and misses with gifts to the kids! I always find it interesting to see if the 'fad' toys live up to what they expect.....
Here is mine - and if the thread is started...direct me there please :0

My 6 yr old DD -
Hits - Coloured light up disco-type ball, globe, Barbie Says Game, Pretty pretty princesses board game, clothes, Pollyworld, Fashion Polly
Barbie rollerblades - she didn't ask for these, but santa brought them = I thought they might be a miss, as she is not always co-ordinated with things like this...but she is skating all over the house and won't take them off!

Misses - Gramma got her a microscope (she wanted one) but the one they bought is WAY beyond her -even grampa couldn't use it well. LOL
-Meygan Bratz (DD's name is Megan - she wanted this so badly). Screamed when opened it. Has played with it for about 2 mins. Polly pocket sparkle style house - what a mess it makes!! She wanted this badly too - has played with it for about 5 mins and back to dancing with the disco ball lighting up her room.
-Make me Pretty barbie styling head - she has played with it a bit but 'I' am disappointed in the poor quality of it!

I find it quite interesting that sometimes the simplist toys are the big hits!!!! She also got one of those plastic ball things that expand and go smaller - from the science store - and has not put it down! Also a slinky has been played with alot!

We picked it up on sale not plannign to get it. DS was told he was paying for part of it with Christmas money. We will see if it is a hit for me. I really wanted t to get into playing Battlefleet Gothic instead.

Misses

No real misses just my Cousin knows DD's taste too well. Cousin did the shopping for everyone on that side of the family including my dad. DD ended up with 3 things she already has ... Magna Doodle, Barbie MiniVan, and a Barbie fashion head. Actually the fashion head she is keeping because it is a different one and has more hair "stuff". The other one she has is the makeup one that uses hot or cold water to change to makeup colors. Tried to talk her into taking it back (With cousin's blessing) but DD really wanted to keep it.

10 yo dd HITS: Password Journal2, American Girl Trundle Bed, any American Girl accessories, boombox, music
MISSES: Ekara(top item on her list and she hasn't used it yet)

4 yo dd HITS: American Girl Doll and accessories, Playdoh dentist, easel(loves to draw) and art supplies,
MISSES: Leap Pad (she likes it but hasn't used it more than 5 minutes), Candyland, Rapunzel horse and carriage(I thnk there is too much other stuff to play with right now)

18 yo ds HITS: Leather jacket, anything from American Eagle, money and gift certificates, silver bracelet to match necklace
MISSES: Money to pay for books for the 2nd semester at school(I, however, love this gift from Nana)

Hits for my DS's:

DS-17yo: Portable MP3 player, ZipZap car, PS2 games,fleece bathrobe
DS-20yo: leather jacket, ZipZap car

I had bought the ZipZap cars, but gave them to my mom to give the kids-It's so fun to see them excited about a "toy" at their ages.

Hits: Playstation II and games; DVDs; Harry Potter Legos, bionicles

Misses: none so far

2yo DD - she really thought everything was great! Everytime she opened something she wanted to play it right then.

Big Hits:

2 Barbies (The only toy she asked Santa for) She was very excited to get them and even took a nap with both yesterday.

Thomas the Tank Engine Roundhouse Train set, playboard, and table. (This was a big surprise!) We've all played with this several times. (she woke up and asked to play with trains first thing this morning - Dec. 26th)

Little People Garage (she showed all of our company this toy)

Wooden toybox with puzzles, blocks, shape sorter, sewing block and her name on the side. (from her G.G. was a surprise hit)

Jessie pj's - (she won't take them off!)

Princess light up slippers - (calls them her "glass slippers")

Hits:

Bear in the Big Blue House bean bag chair

Cuddly dolly

Cinderella puzzle

Books

All coloring and marker activitiy sets

All of her new clothes and she got lots from the grandparents
(She proudly would show each outfit) She got several Princess sweatshirts and shirts, all different but everyone knows she's a princess fan.

All her new stuffed animals (like we needed more:rolleyes: )

Lilo & Stitch PS2 game (Daddy does most of the playing, but she likes to hold the other controller and try to play)

Too many other little play toys given by family and friends to mention, but DD's has played with all.

Misses:

Dolly that pees and came with a potty (given by mom-mom, DD does not want any part of a potty for herself so she took offense to the dolly with a potty chair!) (mom-mom did not realize what kind of doll this was when she bought it)

Very frilly dress (from her G.G. - DD thinks these kind of dresses are too itchy - however she loves to wear more casual dresses)

Avon Barbie jewelry kit - Actually this was a hit in DD's eyes, but the jewelry was to fragile for 2yo hands and was easily bent out of shape)

I bought my 11 and 12 year old nephews Yu Gi Oh starter decks. I could only find them on Ebay, so I knew if they got duplicates, I could not return them. One nephew had asked me for them, I just hoped the other would like them as well.

I was not watching closely when they opened their gifts, but both of these boys ran over to me and hugged me, they were so excited. This is not at all usual for them!

I felt like such a cool aunt..........Yu Gi Oh was a HIT.

Thanks to a year old thread on the DIS, another HUGE hit were the "no sew" fleece blankets I made. People around here had not seen them. Everyone loved them.

Hits:

Spiderman toy
New bike!(HUGE hit)
All of his videos but one
Harry Potter castle kit
Money!

Misses:

One video (a Rodney Dangerfield movie  )

A pair of Nike sneakers that were too small (man's size 9!)

My Hit?

My son told me this was the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER! :teeth:

I haven't really tallied up the hits and misses, but I have to give a lot of credit to my wife for one of the gifts that we purchased for our kids. She found a toy cell phone and pager at the dollar store. I told her that I thought that our teenage kids were way too old for that. Boy was I wrong. Once James (15yo) opened that package, we could not get him to put it down. I think that he nearly drained the batteries in both the faux phone and pager. It was most definitely the hit for him.

Sarah got a lot of "Lord of the Rings" merchandise. She's an easy one to shop for right now. If it has LOTR on it, she wants it.

Hits:
Mandy--Game Boy Advance
Scooter..still in question, really wanted it though, we'll see when it warms up...
Stroller with Baby

Cassie--stroller with baby(same as Mandy's)
Keyboard, Barney stuff..

Shep--MLB 2003 Slugfest for game cube, money, golf course gift certificate

Believe--she likes everything

DS #2 (8):

Hits--Stereo, RC Hummer, Captain Underpants books, Disney Pins (a set of LE pins from disney catalog), magic 8 ball

Misses--queasy bake cookerator......well, ok, a miss in my book because he makes a mess with it! ;)

ds#1 (10):

Hits--Stereo, The Complete James Bond book, Simpsons Chess set, Lava Lamp, Disney Pins (see above, different set)

Misses--RC airplane. Hasn't even taken it out of the box, and asked if it could be exchanged for an RC vehicle instead.

The Stereos were the big big hits, though. Both of them are ecstatic. I also told them they'd better take good care of them, because if they ever wanted another stereo, they were going to have to spend their own money on it. For some reason, that put the fear of God in both of them. LOL
