Do we expect too much? WWYD?

We've been on five or six cruises (can't remember) and have never received any DVC magnets, gifts, or recognition at all. I just assumed it was because we were paying cash. :confused3 We have gone down to watch the DVC spiel and play the trivia game. I think we got some baseball caps.

Maybe they've started doing this more since our last cruise in 2009?

I have a question about the DVC "get togethers". This sounds like something I'd try to avoid . I have all the points I need and I bought them resale so what goes on at these meetings?

Basically sales presentations with games thrown in to cover the commercialism of it. I'd be avoiding them like the plague!

I'm amazed by some of the comments in this thread that scold the OP. The OP was repeatedly left out of activities and rewards and the problem was never rectified despite the OP's best efforts.
  • That's not a reflection on the OP's character. It's poor business performance by professionals who are supposed to be doing a better job.
  • It hurts to be repeatedly left out of things that people around you are enjoying. This is not an appropriate experience on a cruise.
The problem should certainly be reported to management, so the performance issue can be rectified on future cruises. Many well-run businesses would send a written apology as well.

DVC Members are just people who Disney sold timeshares to. There really isn't a club and Guides are sales people. Any perk or event is offered by the DVD marketing department to make you warm up to the idea of buying. This is a business and nothing more.

Yup.

We liked all the talk about it being a "club" too. But over time our expectations have been racheted down. We are realists.

AND . . . next month when we visit Aulani I know we will once again feel our purchase was well worth it - just as we feel during each trip we take. It works for us. :wizard:

I agree with rocketriter. I would definitely have felt left out if I had seen and heard about the gifts/invites other DVC members were getting and we weren't. I also would have felt disappointed by "Disney" when the cast members did not deliver on their promise after their apology. I would definitely let management know. Maybe a legitimate reason will be given as to why some people receive these and some don't.

Are we just expecting too much? Is there someone we could write to? Call? What would you do? DH is still irritated and these things usually roll right off of him. Appreciate your thoughts.
Are you expecting too much? Maybe, but we all have great expectations when we are excited about a new venture. Since this was your first DVC trip, you had greater expectations.

As to what you should do....Just write a nice note to Member Satsifaction explaining your issues. They have always been more than helpful when we have had any issues.

This thread inspired me to write Member Satisfaction about our 10/8 Eastern cruise. Like the OP I am not in it for the free stuff, I just wanted to be included. We never cruise on our points, so as normal there was no welcome home magnet on our door. So we go to the desk with our DVC cards and show them we are members. On of the CM writes down our room number on the list. I think everything is fine. Nope. Not one call. Not one invite to anything. So I took the time to send a letter. Not to get free stuff but in the hopes they will address the situation and maybe change how things are handeled.

Disney knows the psychology of people and they use it to their advantage. Despite what some people will say, everyone likes feeling special. When the expected feeling doesn't happen, instead of feeling good, we feel really, really, bad.

Here are some Disney feel goods:
Welcome Home
Access to TOTWL
Fast Passes
Hard ticket events
Welcome Home Wednesdays
Online check in, especially when they bring your room packet out front
Walking past a sign that says DVC Members Only
DCL/DVC acknowledgments
DDP
AP's
TIW
Pool hopping
Using your card key in the elevator to access the Concierge Floor
Discounts
Merry Mixer

People will even pay more money buying direct because the purchase experience made them feel special.
