Hi so I am kind of stressing out about this. The last time we went was 2009. We're going in October time. I don't like the idea that I have to know whats on a pre-paid card. I like to be able to count what I have left at the end of the day without looking back at what I have spent. I don't want to take that amount of cash(feels unsafe). If I buy traveler cheques will I be able to spend them??:confused3

We have never had problems changing TCs in any of the park shops or indeed outside the parks. Concierge will cash up to $200 per day.

We've never had a problem either but have noticed that more and more stores will ask for your passport now. We took t/chqs last time as well as a cash card because we had some left over from a previous visit. I will only be taking a cash card this time (although I do still prefer t/chqs for the exact reasons you do) because we have money on that still and because I don't want to cart my passport around with me.:)

When we went in march I too had left over travellers cheques from 2009 and found a few places refusing them, Jo-Anns (craft store), PINK at Florida Mall and a couple of others. Thankfully I had a credit card but it was quite frustrating. However the parks and Target/WallMart all happily took them with ID.

Travellers cheques are being phased out but, for the most part, they are still pretty widely accepted in tourist areas.

I understand your reluctance for a pre-paid card but we have been using one for years and never had any problems knowing what is left. We used to just keep a running total by keeping all receipts and then deducting them each evening. Now we use the app and find it is usually pretty much up to date.

For now, though, if you want to continue using paper TCs then you will be fine at WDW and most places in Orlando.

Although everywhere we went in 2012, took TC's we did get a few funny looks & "We don't see them much these days" type comments.
Heading back in November 2014 & will only be taking cash.

I would strongly advise against taking all your spending money in cash, unless you have some kind of a backup and you are sure that your travel insurance covers you for the amount you intend to take.

We'll pay by card & the rest by cash.
Been going to the States for years & last trip was the first time I've noticed anything with TC's.
May still take a few but certainly not as much as we did last time.

I have been a travel claims negotiator for nearly 10 years and I can honestly say I have only ever seen about 5 claims for theft/loss at Disney, and I see ALOT of claims.

We only ever take cash never traveller cheques cards as we hate them. We prefer to be able to see how much we have left.

If your sensible about how much u carry and where u keep it you should be ok with just cash.

Although we did have our buggy stolen in SeaWorld :confused3
