Do they make any attempt to match your family with others at your table when assigning? I have 2 girls who are 4 & 6, it would be great if we were paired with a family who also had girls that age! :)

hi, when we went in June, we were with a couple and there 17 year old and theie 20 year old. We have a son who was 11 at the time. So it doesn't appear so, at least for us.

I do think they try! We sat at a table with two other single mom's and their kids. I had two 15 year old girls with me, one of the other kids was a 13 year old boy, and a 12 year old girl. We had a great time!

On the Magic, we were paired with a family with a four-year-old daughter (the same age as our only child was). The father was a computer programmer like my husband. The only problem was they were Japanese and spoke almost no English!!!!!! Meals were kind of awkward, to say the least, but we managed to communicate a little.

if there are 4 of you , you can put in a request for a table for 4 by yourselves...
that's what we did...(we called DCL before the cruise and requested it)....
i prefer eating with just my family.....

Actually I'm glad to hear that they sometimes do put families together. I was getting the impression that parties of 4 tended to be at a table by themselves. This was our experience on our first cruise and on the second we were with my parents. So of course the 6 og us were seated together. This time we're sort of hoping for table mates! And of course keeping fingers crossed on compatability!:)

Parties of four are not always seated by themselves. I was part of a party of four and we were seated with another party of four. I wish they would put similar people together!

There are only 3 of us. Our DD is 11. I requested a table for four and was told that it could happen and they would put the request in. I am hoping, but also know that it may not happen.

DH, DS10 and I also requested a table for 4. Hopefully we will have it and noone else will be at our table. Not to sound anti-social but we have a bit of a clothing situation. (DH doesnt want to dress up except for formal/semi-formal nights)

If was myself and girlfriend so they put us at a table with 2 single mom's and their daughters. For us is was great just us girls. Having just had my husband leave me I was glad not to be at a table with any smoochie homeymooners.
It will be intresting to see where we get seated this time it will be me and my dad.
Of course everyone will probally think he is my sugar daddy because he is only 18 years older than me and doesn't look or act his age.

imgoingtodisney...
well i suppose i'm anti-social too....but we just enjoy being together as a family....after all, that's the whole point of taking a vacation together....
besides which, we've had a few interesting group eating experiences that i wouldn't want to repeat...
we used to go on organized nature hikes of several days in length....meals were in a group dining hall at group tables...most of the time the other familes were wonderful (after all, we all had a common love for hiking), but a few times we had REALLY unpleasant tablemates.....but that was when we were roughing it, so no big deal....when i'm in an elegant setting i'm not in the mood for the possibililty of having difficult or strange eating companions...
i can just imagine being on the cruise with this one woman we were with once...geez....every single food item that was served she would say, "do you know how many calories are in that????"....to which we'd say yes, we think we'll have a double serving...god....5 days of that...i must have eaten twice as much just to be annoying...i can't imagine being subjected to that on the cruise....

disneyholic family+ imgoingtodisney,

We agree with you 100%. We just booked our 1st ever cruise (Wonder 2-22-2004). And I already requested a private table for two(if possible). For all the same reasons you listed.
I always like to give this example........When you go out for a nice relaxing, romantic, quiet, dinner with your spouse, to a very nice restraunt, do you ask for a table for 2 or do you ask to sit with complete strangers that you have never met, and in 99% of cases wil never see again??I think you know what most people would say....

I am with you guys all the way!!! We will be celebrating our DD's birthday and I really don't want to share that with someone else that I really don't know.......Ok, so I guess that we are anti-social family as well...;)

When DH and I were on our honeymoon cruise, we had a table for 2 (not DCL), but one table over from us there was a lady that would have driven me crazy. One couple that was at that table on the first night...did not come back. I just hope that they had their table changed.

Count me in with those requesting a table of our own!!! Perhaps I should just admit to being 'anti-social', but we too would just like for it to be us at our dinner seating!! After all, the whole rest of the cruise will be full of activities and socializing. Sometimes I just like to be able to sit and relax and enjoy my meal. You know, not trying to hold a conversation with strangers in between bites!!! hahahah!!!

And, another biggie is DS (5) He is not the biggest eater.... Let's just say if we get a table with another kid, or even a doting older couple (did I say how cute DS is!!!) Well, DS will not eat one bite, and we will not get one moments peace during the meals!!!

Are there many tables for 6? I requested to be seated by ourselves also (we are a family of 5) because it is so rare that we are all together to eat dinner I don't want to share that time with other people. Are there many tables that seat 6 or are our chances of having our request really slim? Has anyone who has been on the cruise before actually had that request honored?

ncligs: you do realize that there are no tables for 2 in the main dining rooms on the DCL ships, yes? I believe that a table for 4 is the smallest. From what I have seen on these boards, you would only have a chance at being alone if the ship was pretty empty, but given that you are going during a very busy time of year, I would not count on it.

Thanks for the info, thats what I thought. So I told them a table for 4 would be prefered, than a larger group table.I still stand by what I said. You shouldn't be forced to eat with complete strangers.;)

I agree, as this is the only part of the cruise I am not looking forward to. Unfortunately, though, it's how DCL does it, so short of choosing another line, we're stuck and complaining about it won't help. My DH, who is less freaked out by this than me, has the attitude that if we don't like our dining companions, we'll eat elsewhere. He's very zen about the whole thing! I wish....
