I was reading that the monte cristo sandwich has turkey and cheese then they batter it in an egg batter and then sprinkle powdered sugar on it, that last bit sounds really gross, why would they add sugar to a sandwich, that's just nasty?

:rotfl2: I know exactly what your saying and when I first saw one I thought the exact same thing but trust me its really really good

I order mine without the powdered sugar. They are ok with it, but I prefer them without!

It is pretty much a regular sandwich covered with a french toast / funnel cakes type deep fried coating. There is a lite dusting of powedered suger on it after it is fried. It was so dark in the Blue bayou last time we went you could't of seen the sugar.

It does sound gross but the whole thing is soooo good, it you have a sweet tooth. :goodvibes

I was a little puzzled by the powdered sugar the first time I ordered a Monte Cristo, but I was even more puzzled by the jam on the side. I'm thinking...a ham, turkey & cheese sandwich with jam?? But I tried it, and I was hooked! Just give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always order one without.

I can't wait til my next Monte Cristo...Dec.11...sigh...

My boyfriend loves the Monte Cristo at Blue Bayou.
We did try the cheese monte cristo at Cafe New Orleans and it didn't taste good. We haven't eaten at Blue Bayou since they renovated and changed their menu (their prices are so high now!). It really does taste good, especially with the powdered sugar and the fruit dipping sauce. Yum!! :goodvibes Great, now I'm hungry!! LOL! :rotfl:

I always thought the same thing. Jam? Sugar? HUH? Then I tried it.......and now I crave them on a regular basis, and unfortunately don't live near it! Just order it and trust us!!! (and I am the world's pickiest eater!)

Here's a picture of the Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans. It's the same as the one at the Blue Bayou, but the presentation is different.

I had the 3 Cheese one on this past trip and was deeply disappointed. Nothing can replace my beloved Monte Cristo. I can't wait to go back so I can get a real one again.

I went to Cafe Orleans and there was sugar on mine. It was really sweet and I didnt care for it. It would have been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better without it. I would have ordered it without, but i've only heard of the monte cristo on the Disboard site and had to try one. If I had known that it came with sugar I wouldnt have gotten it.
