Do they check your bag everytime you enter a park?

I'm quite happy that they check bags makes me feel safer, but I still do worry about people with hidden weapons, I guess its just a NY thing but people do carry knifes hidden in their pockets a lot around here...

Most of the security guards I've encountered barely gaze into my bag. It may be because I'm a teen, but still..

I think it's a waste. If you're determined to bring a weapon or whatever into a park, you're not going to hide it in a bag that HAS to get checked by security.

They always glance into my diaper bag/backpack thing, but have never actually searched it. I would actually feel better if they had bomb sniffing dogs, I think I worry more about someone bringing in some sort of improvised explosive device.

But I understand that German Shepherds Sniffing bags sorta ruins the Disney Magic....maybe they could put Mickey Ears :earsboy: on them or something just to 'soften things' up a little.

They DO have dogs. We met one just the other day at Epcot. The handler stopped and talked to DD about the dog and how he was trained and what his job was.

I saw dogs at the park a few times the week after Christmas this year...especially on New Year's Eve at MK.

We are a family of 6, we usually take in 2 backpacks and 2 fanny packs, myself and one of my older kids take the bags through the check point, its really not a big deal, some look through things very good, some don't. We have everything opened and ready, whole process takes a few minutes.

Most of the security guards are friendly, one asked where we would be at noon because he would be ready for a snack and our apples looked really good.

Wow really?? I've never seen them! That's awesome though, I'm glad they're there!

I would bet there is a lot of "undercover" security out there in the parks too. ;)

Yeah, one of the things we do now after many trips is play 'spot the security guard.' We've watched handoffs, had chats with undercover guards at DL. One clue - if you see a youngish "Dad" looking guy without a family, the chances are not bad he is undercover security. There are quite a few of them.

They are not all young;)

Really don't know they are looking for! If it is weapons why do people without bags just walk through? Won't a gun fit in a pocket???

When we were at Epcot last summer, we watched security at the bag check pulling out several bottles of beer from someones bag. I guess some people really don't know about bag checks at theme parks:confused3.

The only thing that will catch almost all weapons are metal detectors and that at Disney would just be a disaster.

People do NOT know how to deal with metal detectors unless you go through them with some regularity. You can always tell someone how does and those that don't. Just watch your security lines at the airport and the speed of someone who knows the process and used to it, versus the person not.

I deal with them almost daily and just want to grit my teeth at the people in front of me who come to court with large buckle belt, 7 pounds of metal jewelry , steel toed boots, and can't figure out how to empty out EVERYTHING in their pockets including their change. Versus people like me, who know every item in our wardrobes that will set off the detector (I know every pair of shoes that I wear to court that will/won't set off a detector and why).

Now imagine a rope drop and trying to put several thousand people through the detector at once and the 3 hour wait to get into the park!

To save time, have all zippers opened before getting to the check point. It is really a painless process. Also have one of you go through the line with the bags and stroller and the other one go through with the 2 older kids through the no bag line. It will make things go a lot quicker for you.

You can't do that anymore. I use to give my DH the bags and then he would go ahead and get everything checked. Now they make strollers go through the bag lines. It is a hassle but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I know they aren't all young or male, but older men without families and women without families are less likely to be undercover security guards when playing "spot the guard."
