Just wondering if the villas (BCV, BWV, OKW) have CD players for music ?
Also I've heard they have VCRS - do all of them? Do you have to bring your own tapes or is there a place to rent them?

They don't have CD players.
The studios just have a TV, but anything bigger than a studio has a VCR (I'm not sure about BCV, they may have a DVD player).
If you are a member, you can get videos for free at Hank's Renta nd Return at OKW. I think there is a small charge for non-members. I'm not sure about the other resorts.

If I understand correctly, BCV will have DVD players :)

GV's at OKW don't generally have CD players (at least the 2 we've stayed in haven't) - just a stereo receiver. However, I think I remember reading that the GV's at BWV do have CD players. So this obviously varies by resort.

According to the descriptions/amenities lists on the official site (www.disneyvacationclub.com), they have/will eventually have DVDs at every resort! I personally can't wait as we take a handfull with us for the plane rides anyway. Also, you'll be able to play your CDs in the DVD players.

I'm assuming they are slowly replacing the VCRs with DVDs as they renovate each resort, so it'll probably be a while before they all have them.

Ok, dumb question here from the technology impaired...you can play a CD (music) in a DVD player and hear the music??

Also, if they have DVD players at BC, will they rent DVDs there to play in them?

Since DVD players can decode the more complex info on DVDs, they can also play "simple" audio CDs. (Conversely, CD players cannot decode the more sophisticated info on DVDs).

I would assume that DVC resorts will rent DVDs once DVD players are installed in all units.

Generally speaking, a DVD player will play CDs. Not all will (the DVD player has to support the CD format), but I've never seen a DVD player without this feature.

I would imagine they will rent DVDs once they convert -

Its a good decision for them. Tape has a short rental life - DVDs last a very long time. VCRs break more often. And since DVD players retail for $100 (about the same as a VCR), I doubt it will take long to make the switch.

DVD's last a long time as long as people take care of them, just like tape. I can't count the number of DVD's that I've rented that the previous hoof-handed choom who rented managed to scratch, rendering portions of the DVD unviewable.

A majority of DVD's support MP3's (compressed format) which means you can have as an example - around 700 songs on one CD (great for long parties). My next car stereo will have MP3 support and then I will never listen to radio again except for the news.

With the cheap cost of DVD's today, Disney would make back the purchase prices by the rental's themselves very fast producing a small but revenue generating program that would satisfy the majority of families that visit Disney. Example - My biggest pet peeve was paying $10 a night for a collage size fridge that cost me $70 for my stay, the fridge cost @ $40. So I bought that fridge with my stay and began a profit by the 5th night that will last till that fridge no longer works. That was at all my Poly stays.

Firefighter- You're right, the life of a DVD or VHS tape can be shortened by poor care.

But I think what crisi meant was that IF a DVD is taken care of, it will not degrade in quality. Only a scratch or an actual break will affect it, and since a DVD is read with a laser, it shouldn't get scratched with proper care.

With a VHS tape, or an audio tape for that matter, the quality degrades slightly with each use because the reading mechanism relies on physical contact, and the tape experiences wear.

So not only does a DVD look and sound better than a tape from the start, it will retain its quality while a tape will not. So a DVD can be "rentable" for much longer than a tape.
