Do the theaters play new movies?

I just got off the phone with DCL re: movies on the Fantasy. Current list is:
Dr. Strange
Moana
Rogue one
Beauty & the beast
Born In china
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Pirates of Caribbean (new one)
Cars 3
Spider-Man homecoming

Our experience with movies on the cruises has been very, very good. They will show a film at 12:05am the day it's released . . . just like they would in NY or LA. They will show it in the Walt Disney Theater in the late afternoon, or late at night, if attendance is expected to be large. Both 3D and non-3D versions for different tastes.

Sound is terrific. Popcorn is fresh and worth the $'s.

IMO, it's another reason to love DCL.

For what we pay for Disney cruises, they should throw in the popcorn for free.

While in normal circumstances, Spiderman would NOT play since it is being released by Sony - it may be that the recent deal Disney made with Sony allows them to do it. Disney may use Spiderman in their Marvel Universal Films and not pay Sony.

In the case of this movie, Sony pays for the cost of the film and keeps profits from the film; however, Disney has the merchandise rights and keeps that cash. Buy a ticket to the movie - Sony $$$. Buy a Spiderman toy - Disney $$$.

On one cruise we got to see Cars 2 before it was released. Other than that was regular first run stuff.

Would you assume this would be the same on the Fantasy July 22 cruise?

Because Spiderman is being produced by Sony and not Disney...not sure if they would play on the cruise ships.

EDIT: NM just saw the movie listing...looks like im wrong!

It seems, based on going through the posted navigators, that the movie list tends to changes if there's a new Disney movie out. So my guess would be that unless there's something being released between 7/15 and 7/22, the list would likely be the same. The person I spoke with did give me the "list could change at any time" disclaimer but I'm assuming that's a regular disclaimer.

We were on the Dream on June 15 and they did a PremEar of Cars 3 at 11:00 p.m. (it was released on June 16, so we got it an hour early). I wonder if they did it a little early since it would appeal so much to the little kiddos. It was packed and was a blast to watch the movie with a very excited crowd!

We were on the Wonder for the premEAR of Born in China it was kind of low key and allot of folks including myself were in pjs but a blast none the less

Wow. Those movie line-ups are way better than I expected. I may need to book some nursery time for DD afterall . . .

I always have grand plans of seeing movies on the ships and am lucky to make it to one or two on a 7 night cruise. There are just too many other things to do. Unless DD is dead set on seeing a specific movie, we don't make it to any movies on the 3 or 4 night cruises.

My first cruise the only time I set foot in the Buena Vista Theater was for muster drill my second I saw 2 movies

I've only been to 2 movies, once for the premear of the second Avengers movie and then on our last cruise to Jungle Book when it was pouring rain. Both were so much fun, we're planning to make at least one on our next cruise.

...
Exactly. My first thought was that, "it's curious that a cruise line would make the movie experience onboard so enjoyable," . . . But then, I realized, perhaps it's because they STARTED as a movie company!

Our first cruise we didn't see any, but then our second cruise my husband watched two because they were ones he was looking to see anyways - plus it's free!
