We keep mugs in our Owners Locker to be sure that we'll have ones that are as large as we like! We stay in other TS in Orlando, not just DVC, and it's a surprise to find out how tiny their coffee cups can be. Sometimes they seem almost like demitasse, not even standard 5 ounce cups, much less mug size (although they probably are 5 ounces and we're just used to much larger).
Since I drive when I stay in any DVC villa I bring a mug for coffee and a tea cup for tea. Tea is for the afternoon and must be in a nice cup. Coffee is preferred in a mug but will be accepted in any form of container including styrofoam in the early morning.
Sometimes I get a refillable mug or if I'm on a very short trip, I'll bring an old refillable mug and just buy coffee when I'm out walking. Out walking for me means a loop around the lake about 5:30am or so, with a stop somewhere for coffee once they open up, which used to be 6ish at BC, and 6:30 at BW Inn. Not sure what the time is now since my last WDW trip was Feb 2020.
If I wake earlier and I do sometimes, I'll make in room coffee and take it with me on my walk.
There are quite a few people who get out and run or walk early, even as early as 4. I've seen them from the Boardwalk rooms when I've stayed in one.
I know I can ask for mugs or glasses, but I don't actually like the little white mugs.
Yes, last year, I mentioned it at the front desk and was told I could request them. Instead I borrowed a couple of mugs from the 2 bedroom villa that the grandkids were staying in.
Now for me to ask for someone to bring me mugs, means I have to wait and I would tip. This is a split stay, so I would need to do that twice. Instead I'm ordering two mugs from walmart with food delivery.
Having disposable paper goods in studios began long before the pandemic. It's reportedly due to not having dishwashers in studios and the resorts not having commercial dishwashers that could properly clean cups, dishes and utensils for studios.
That wasn't all locations and what we experienced was that they added the disposable but still had the real mugs and glasses where we stayed. That was AKV - Jambo, VGF and BWV most immediately before the shut down.
I just spent 2 nights at VGF and 1st thing I did after going for a water glass and discovering the plastic was to call for coffee mugs and glasses. They were delivered without question.
