Do the MagicBand+ for sale online work at DLR

I want one so bad but won't be buying unless they add the functionality of hotel keys and payments.

I have major FOMO though and lose all sense of money when I step foot into the park. I feel like a kid who has their mom's credit card with no limit so you never know if I end up with one. Fingers crossed I hold myself together and done give in.

I thought I would be like that, but I went to the parks Saturday and even my kids weren't interested. I didn't feel any desire to buy one, especially at nearly $50 each.

I so hope I am like that. We're taking an extra kiddo on this next trip so I would need to buy one more than normal. I'll tell them now that they shouldn't even ask me. That way I won't be tempted.

Don't feel bad, you are one person, up against the Entire (and quite effective) Disney Marketing Team lol!

I'm sure they will be a waste of money but I got some for our trip in December anyway, lol.

There is a 20% discount if you are a D23 member and spent over $65 until October 31, so I guess that's something .

Hoping the functionality is similar to WDW + bands. Just back from a WDW trip and they would light up in different colors on different rides, interacted with the 50th statues and during fireworks were super fun. My kids are used to the Magic Bands at WDW so as soon as MKey go back on sale I likely will get them each one just for ease of using LL. It is a bit of a thrill to tap them in and see that green mickey light up. Yup, I’m a sucker. Do I think its worth $35-45 a pop for someone doing a one time visit, nope. But just like ears (which I abhor, they hurt my head!) I can see accumulating a stash of these in different themes. I may have bought a Main Street Electrical Parade one on my trip…

I'll be getting them. I don't care about the "missing" features since I don't stay onsite and have never used a magic band to pay for purchases or anything like that. To me it is saving the hassle of hauling out my phone for lightning lanes, etc. It can do all the things I ever used them for at WDW anyways.

I am not someone who buys everything just because Disney releases it or I need every new item. For context, I don't own a single spirit jersey, set of ears, popcorn bucket, etc. But I bought the MagicBand+, have used it already and don't regret it at all. I might feel differently if I was buying for a big family, but for just us, it has been worth it. While yes, I still take out my phone for mobile ordering and making Genie+ reservations, using it at the lightning lanes and when park hopping is great, especially as previously I'd swipe for both of us. So while I'll appreciate if/when they add on additional features, even without I am glad to have it.

The band I bought was $35 so with my Magic Key, $28 before tax.

I still have to read through the interactive color and vibration functionality so I don't know if it's similar to WDW, but ours were lighting up blue and red when near boarding at one point for Webslingers.

How do you use the Magic Key discount?

How do you use the Magic Key discount?
Hopefully, someone will know how to purchase with magic key discount online, everything I've seen says to buy it at one of the shops onsite and show your pass id for the discount. They may need to be charged (first) with the special cable, not sure if it plugs into a standard usb - maybe someone else knows. So might want to prep kids in case it is not fully functional the first day?

That's what I was thinking. It would be a lot easier to order ahead so you could charge and prep it for the trip. It would be worth giving up the $10 savings to be able to do that.

I was hoping there was a way to get a discount online, but I can't find any way to do that.

For whatever reason, you can't buy a Disneyland-specific MB+ online, so thank you for the list of locations at the resort that sell them. It does bug me that I'd have to go buy one on my first day and couldn't use it until it charged up, plus then I'd have to set it up. I'd just like to start with it right away and have some time ahead of my trip to check it out since I've never used one.

I really want one for the star wars game but the fact that you can't pay with them is keeping me away. A blessing in disguise for my wallet :rotfl:
The moment they add that functionality I will be in trouble.

We're going to WDW next Fall and that's when I'll pop for MB+. Since MB+ doesn't have the full functions at DLR it'll be no hassle to stick with the paper pass to swipe into the lines. I want to hold off until closer to our trip for the latest designs and any 'improvements' they may make. I'll use that one at both places.

PS Ear bands kill my head too, to the point where I can't wear them anymore.

It will be about halfway charged so you can still set it up and use it for several hours. If you have a portable phone charger you can simply plug the magicband cable into the USB slot of that and use it to up the charge while you eat a meal or something.
