Do the characters mind? *~Best character interaction stories~*

I am a 46 year old man and one of the greatest moments in my Disney experiences was when I meet Cinderella's step mom and sisters.....

I told Lady Tremaine that her daughters were much more attractive than Cinderella....the conversation with the three of them from that point forward was hilarious. My wife and kids were not in line with me...but standing off to the side and watching after getting off the Carousel.

I've yet to meet them personally but from everything I've heard they are quickly ranking higher up on my must meet list!

sounds like you had a blast with them!

I loved meeting adults as a character! A lot of times they are just as excited as the kids are. One of my favorites was a woman who was getting ready to adopt a boy from overseas. She brought an autograph book to Stitch and asked him to sign it for her son.

It said, "To _____, from Stitch. P.S. I'm adopted too!" She teared up when she saw it. Moments like that are wonderful and it was neat that she did that. Sometimes the adults "get" the references to a character's personality and play along better than some of the younger kids, particularly cantankerous characters like Donald.

The only time I didn't like adult groups is when they were inappropriate. Things like hitting us (Stitch seemed to get hit a lot), hitting ON us in more than a joking way, or saying inappropriate things around the kids. Keep it famiily friendly and life is good.

I was a character for about 12 years and some of my favorite memories are with adult groups with no kids. One of the things many of us really liked was not having to sign autographs and just interacting with the guests. Sometimes you feel like an autograph machine so interacting and taking photos is always much more fun. One of my favorite memories was when an elderly man met my friend that day, Tigger, and he cried as he hugged, saying that he remembered the stories from when he was a child and meeting Tigger brought back all of those memories. Tigger got teary eyed, too, btw :)

That so much for shaing your perspective. Tigger is a wonderful thing!,,

Thanks Stitch's friend for sharing your insight! I agree with you that adults often have the best panther with the characters since the understand references

wow thats awesome that you were "friends" with the characters!! and i guess i can see how sometimes they feel like machines with the younger fans. so getting actually interactions or even conversations would be like a nice break.

that has to be one of the best character experiences I've read! I'm sure the characters have favorite people who meet them stories lol

id love to work for disney park some day not sure how, and people have said it will probably never work out, but they can't stop me from dreaming!

Thanks, it was a great job for many years and 95% of the time it was wonderful interactions with the guests, big and small. I wouldn't trade that part of my life for anything in the world. You learn so much about people.

And that's one thing I love about Disney to this day: It's for both kids and adults. I have taken adult friends to Disney for their first time, no kids in the group, and I've seen them light up like a 5-year-old; especially in regards to Disney entertainment (Characters, shows, fireworks, etc...). So never feel like just because you don't have kids in your group, you can't be a kid yourself :-) Indulge in that side of you, especially when at Disney! Don't worry about what others in line might say or think. They're on their vacation, you're on yours. Enjoy :-)

P.S. http://www.disneyauditions.com and http://wdw.disneycareers.com/en/default/ are good places to start! Or if you are in college: http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/default/ (the College Program is how I got my start back in 1991... LOL)

Well said!! Awesome about the adoption note! A quick-thinking, heartfelt moment from you is a lifetime memory for that family! Love it!

And I do agree with the inappropriate behavior from adults (and kids). I have many of those memories, too (punched in the face, tackled, etc.) but luckily it wasn't every day :goodvibes \

Thinking about it right now in this perspective, many of those guests have given us lifetime memories as well!

Absolutely! My pleasure! I love coming to these boards and reading the character experience threads. It makes me realize so many moments, moments that I've probably forgotten, like a simple wave or a hug, stick with people for a lifetime. It makes me realize that although I loved the job, I took so much of it for granted at the time and have an even bigger appreciation for it now by reading about it from the guest's perspective.

It's such a cool thing!:tigger:

It is nice to hear from Stitch's friend! That's for sharing that heart-warming story.

It is experiences like these that keep people going back to WDW

Love this story! I bet the sisters tried to make your wife jealous

Tigger is a wonderful thing!,,

Except when he is "molesting" your daughter! ;)

Don't worry, she wasn't done any harm. I will say, though.....as a father it was a slightly awkward/uncomfortable moment! My 16 yo daughter is mature, tall, and beautiful. Most people figure she is probably 18. Maybe Tigger did as well!

Earlier this month at Park Fare she got a hug from Tigger. Hugs from Tigger are always fun, right? Well in this one, about the time you'd expect the hug to end he squeezed harder and shook her back and forth in his arms. Ok, I'm thinking......at least it's over. But it wasn't! He proceeded to hug even harder, and continue to shake her in his arms! I was getting ready to ask if Tig wanted a room!

It was all in good fun and we had a laugh about it, but it was a little odd.

so on my last trip, i made it to see quite a number of characters, 12 in total i believe well i thought about a nice little collage would be nice to see! while most were simply meet and quick picture a few were awesome interactions!!

thank you for all the info i will definitely look into all of that. the college may not work out due to i doubt i have enough credits and at the moment I'm taking a break from school growing up was hard enough to graduate high school i was told to give up middle school then was told it would take 4 additional year to regular high school to graduate only took me 1 extra year and i graduated with honors :cool1: but i went a couple semesters of local college and honestly i was just burned out

also everyone keep those character moment stories coming sorry i started to get off topic with looking into how to get involved with disney working

trying to steer this ship back lol!!

I have had some of the best interactions on my solo trips with the characters - Smee and Captain Hook, Geppetto, and Little John come to mind. Geppetto wasn't getting anyone to come over to his line and he even motioned to me wildly to come over.....I got the star treatment!

And I was in my late 40's.

WDW is for kids; big or small. No distinction made here.

oh wow that is awesome I've only ever seen Geppetto during parades thats an awesome meet, and to get star treatment even better!

Well that was certainly an interesting perspective. Not sure if I'll ever be able to watch an enthusiastic yet lingering hug from a character without now thinking it to be "a little odd".

i know what you mean feeling silly hunting down characters in the park or even just booking a special event in the attempt solely to meet one lol, and for a while i was kinda embarrassed but part of new years resolution i was planning on being more sure of myself and less caring of others opinions, i mean its our trip too right? we paid for the same experience!! and like Mary Poppins once they find out you have a genuine interest in them they try to take a little extra time with you and sometimes break character with hugs, (I know same way with peter for me, I'm pretty sure he hardly ever hugs lol).

oh that is so precious that your grandmother got such a great treasure of a memory with the characters at crystal palace I've ate their once and loved it I'm sure she truly enjoyed getting so much attention from them!!

Yes, & after our meeting I realized that Mary Poppins apologized for being late getting out in the morning & that she had to deal with some unruly children that wouldn't get out of bed. Which means someone must have called wherever they call & told her that someone was waiting for her. After I realized that, it made her graciousness even more special.

P.S. Loved looking at your pics of you & Peter. I will have to read your TR.

Thank you to all of you former "friends" that make these trips so special!!! Your job is a very special one, but not an easy one. You are awesome!!!

I am a former CM of 12 years and I can say that I didn't mind at all when adults only come to see me. I have been blessed to be "friends with" many characters and some of the best interactions I've had have been with adults. Some of the worst have also been with adults ;)
As long as you keep your behavior/conversation appropriate we enjoy real conversations. In fact, we go through lots of training to have those conversations. Unfortunately the autograph book has taken a lot of that interaction time away. But I understand the novelty of getting that autograph.
I read a lot of interactions feeling rushed. Please know it's not from the character. On busy days, we are instructed to get through the line as quickly as possible.
That part I did not like. I wanted to spend time with the guests because I know how long they had waited.
I also read a post about "creepos". We're trained to handle those kind of guests too ;) Cause yes, we got them.
When I wasn't working and spending time in the park, I still got excited when I saw a character out and about. I think that's what makes Disney wonderful. It brings out the kid in all of us and no one should make anyone feel bad for immersing themselves in the magic!
So adult only travelers....search out your favorite characters...engage in their fairy book story.....they love it!
