Yes, it is. Ignorant simply means "uninformed." I hate that it's often used to mean "stupid," because then people get offended when you try to use it the way it's supposed to be used. (Yeah, yeah, I know, words change.)

What happens to children who have learning disabilities when they grow up? I'm serious, if it's not OK to use the "s" word to describe a child why is it OK to describe an adult as stupid? If someone has early signs of dementia are they stupid because they can't remember things?

What happens to children who have learning disabilities when they grow up? I'm serious, if it's not OK to use the "s" word to describe a child why is it OK to describe an adult as stupid? If someone has early signs of dementia are they stupid because they can't remember things?

This is just my personal definition, but to me, stupid is not the same as learning disabled. Stupid is someone who could know better, but can't be bothered.

Examples:

I don't know much about physics. That doesn't mean I'm stupid, it means I'm ignorant regarding physics.

I don't know much about physics, but I insist that my child doesn't need to be in a carseat because I can hold onto her in a crash, even though I've been shown several studies that prove this is impossible. I'm just pretty sure I could do it. And I'm not going to be in a crash anyway. That's not ignorant, and it's not learning disabled. It's stupid.

It's just every day duties she's supposed to do. It is like training her all over again EVERY day. And Mondays? Forget it. It is like starting past the beginning. Sometimes I can't answer her questions because I don't understand the danged questions!

We're all just in awe of her cluelessness. I've really never seen anything like it. We take turns trying to answer her questions because it is just that frustrating. Today was my day....I'm passing her off to someone else tomorrow.

So I take it she's extremely hot?

That's fine, but the person the OP described doesn't sound like she is doing it on purpose, it sounds like she has a learning problem.

I have thought all day that it was Saturday. My DD17's car was gone so I figured she went into work early. I decided to let DD15 sleep late, so I didn't even open her door so as not to disturb her. When I went to wake her up, she wasn't in bed and I freaked. I called her cell, no answer. I called my DH, who is at work and I was freaking out. Where is Hannah???? He said, Why? I said She's not here. Again he said "Why?" I started getting mad because he wasn't taking our missing child situation very seriously. He said they are at school. Do you know what today is? I said, Saturday. And he laughed and asked me why did I think that? He asked if I had turned the tv on to see it was shows that play during the week and I said no, I hadn't even turned the tv on all day.
So, I think you can crown me winner of Stupid/Ignorant Diser of the day!

I don't think she has a learning disability. She is just one of those people that just doesn't get it. She has worked here for longer than I have so if there is any kind of disability I'm sure we would have been made aware of it by now.

And no, SC, I do not think I am perfect nor have I implied that I am perfect. I am just frustrated at having to answer stupid questions that shouldn't even be a question at this point. She has been doing almos the same job for 2 years and it is like she just started. Beyond frustrating.

ETA: We've all had "duh" moments. This is not a case of a "duh" moment.

You know how people go on American Idol and think they have been given the best voice in the universe? Then when they open their mouths and start singing it sounds like cows vomiting up howling cats. They think they can sing though! Somebody somewhere is listening to them sing and telling them they are God's gift!
So I always wonder if I'm really good at the things I think I'm good at, or if I'm just surrounded by people who are really sweet (or have a sick sense of humor) and just let me believe I'm good at them. What if they are all choking down my "delicious" food, or suffering through my "witty" humor with a fake smile pasted on their faces?
What if people tell me I'm smart because I'm actually the biggest idiot ever and I'm just dumb enough to actually believe them??? Aack!! Stupid American Idol! I never doubted myself this way until that Sanjay kid kept getting votes! Obviously people like to support delusions. Or they just really liked the faux hawk
