Just watching the news and the airport crush for Thanksgiving. People having their "baggies" checked.
One gal had all her stuff tossed because she "just didn't think about it"??? Are people just naive to what's going on in the news? That 3-1-1 zip-top bag info has been all over.

Plus I got email twice this week from Delta reminding me. Since this is Atlanta there is a good shot those dingbats got the same emails. LEARN TO READ!

Lord, yes. I'm a news junkie myself, but I know a ridiculous number of people who have not read a newspaper or watched/listened to a newscast in years. Their usual reason? "It's just too depressing."

People owe it to themselves to find out the rules before they travel. They are the first ones to complain when there is long lines. I have no sympathy for those that have to toss stuff. They should have known.

Bingo! And...I frequently travel with my 82 year old parents - I TELL them what the latest is re security , and even print out the latest rules so they can READ it!

I was at WDW the day the terrorist thing happened with the liquids. My family CALLED me (twice) to tell me! Required repacking, but I still knew even though I wasn't quite in the real world.

I flew last month and thought the same thing. I bought Starbucks before the security line, and they had signs everywhere that you had to drink your coffee before going thru security. We drink our coffee, hop in line, and looked on as secuity had to keep telling people they could not bring their coffee thru the checkpoint. Now I am not usually too alert at 5 am, but I managed to see the enormous signs. Not to mention they had a video loop playing as you are standing in security telling you that you cannot bring drinks thru the security checkpoint. How can people be so dense?

There is a name for these kinds of travelers, according to my local newspaper: "the Clampetts" (remember the Beverly Hillbillies?). The St Paul Pioneer Press had an article not too long ago predicting this very thing would happen over the Thanksgiving holiday, thanks to these infrequent flyers, who tend to travel only over the major holidays to see family, and pay zippo attention to news issues relating to travel as a result.

Based on some of the questions I see posed on the DIS every day, I think that people are pretty dense at times. I will temper that comment by saying at least they think to ask...but Lordy, I've gotten to the point where I won't answer questions asked by people who obviously lack common sense or don't bother to read the infinite list of questions about the exact same topic on the first page of threads.

I'll have to say I was shocked when I saw this on the news about our local airport (Louisville). They said only about 1 in 10 people knew about the 3-1-1 thing. The dump cart was FULL. Even if I hadn't flown in awhile, that would be all the more reason to check and see what the rules are now.

I think it belongs in Dr. Honeydew's lab at MuppetVision.
They are too dangerous to put in the cabin of a plane, so feed them to our service members.
Let's not blame the Clampetts for all the stupidity in the travel experience!

And some people wonder why there seems to be a lack respect for the TSA, and why their(TSA) rules need to be debated and questioned.
