Do some people live in a vacuum???

But there are a LOT of posts to which they do NOT respond. As for that pie thing - has anybody contacted the reporter to question the, frankly, stupidity?
The reporter was reporting the TSA actions (I'll let the readers decide how to characterize the action). I'd think the TSA guy would be the best commenter about "what in the world was I thinking when I authorized that?"

As Ron White says - you can't fix stupid................................

I have never hear this expression but I must say that I like it. My mother's new saying is "I see Stupid people". I like that one also.

While I did not travel at Thanksgiving, I did travel for the first time in 6 years last month. I studied up on the new restrictions but as I just posted in another thread, I totally missed the weight limit on checked baggage. Add me to the naive list of people who live in a vacuum I guess (and yes I do vote too)!

After reading this article about dangerous pies, :rolleyes1 :scared1: :sad1: http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/cuyahoga/1164277064116100.xml&coll=2 I have to wonder about the cranium of the TSA assistant federal security director for Northeast Ohio. I think it belongs in Dr. Honeydew's lab at MuppetVision.
They are too dangerous to put in the cabin of a plane, so feed them to our service members. :sad2: :confused3 :furious:
Let's not blame the Clampetts for all the stupidity in the travel experience!

Oooooh. I am so glad I didn't take my pies as carry-on! I asked this question about a month ago. (I think I even said that if they confiscated my pies, they were going straight into the trash. No one is going to enjoy my pies on a technicality!!)

Seriously, though, someone should be really embarrssed that they are not only letting people eat the pies, but that this got into the paper. It is really not professional to get use out of the things they have to confiscate.

And I'll let you all know if I ever get a response from the reporter ;)

Guess I must be among the "dense, ding-bat, Clampett" types.. We're flying next Saturday, and although I knew about the rules, they certainly don't make them all that easy to figure out when you read the lists on the site..
"Yes - no - only if" pertaining to any number of particular items.. I'd prefer a "yes" or a "no" and leave out the garbage about "in this size bottle"; "in that kind of container"; "with this name on it"; "with that name on it"; "in the carry-on"; "out of the carry-on"; "in the bin"; "hand it to security"; blah-blah-blah..

I think we'll just check everything and fly naked.. It will save us - and them - a lot of aggravation.. Plus we won't hold up the lines.... :rotfl:

Well, I would not put you there. Weight is NOT dictated by the TSA, it is airline by airline. The only place you would have found that information is on your airline's site.

I find the list very easy and very concise, but, then again, we all see things differently. The one piece of advice that I found extreamly helpful was: "if in doubt, put it in your checked luggage (assuming it is not a banned item) or leave it at home (if it is on the banned list). "

I pack almost everything in my checked luggage. I am one of those that detests carry ons. Possibly because I have been bumped and almost beheaded more than once by people removing these items from the overhead, not to mention waiting what seems like forever for these folks to find a place for the "kitchen sink" both during boarding and deplaning.
I also have a problem understanding why people need a lot of the stuff they ask about.

I am with Ducklite on the answering of the same questions over and over.

So give me your packing hints.. :) I'm really going to try very, very hard for all of us to "pare down" on this trip.. We have medications and such that will HAVE to go in our carry-on's - along with digital cameras, etc. - but I would LOVE to keep things to a "minimum" - even with our checked luggage! We're headed down on Dec. 2nd - until the 10th - and from the looks of the extended weather forecast we have to bring warm AND cool clothes both!:(

Not a good idea, if you need those meds. My daughter flew to meet us in HI, a couple days before we cruised... just before they changed the rules on some of the items..and everything was checked, except for the minimum. Who knew she would be kissing her and her hubby's luggage goodbye for a couple days? Made it just in time for the cruise.

Just kidding.. :) The meds are a MUST for DD and her DH.. They HAVE to be available, so they'll go in the carry-on's in the appropriately labeledd bottles from the pharmacy..

My friend's DD flew from California to NY late August/early Sept. - alone, with a baby - and her luggage went to DENVER.. Believe me, she was NOT a happy camper!! I just heard the other day that "loss of luggage" since the new safety guidlelines (and therefore an increase in the amount of checked luggage) is up 92%.. That's insane!! :faint:

I don't understand..up 92% of what? If they lost one per flight (which is actually a lot higher than something I just read), they are now losing close to two? Her's was not really lost..she had a close connection, and it didn't make it..so they put it on a flight elsewhere, that had a flight to HI..but that flight was cancelled, so it had to go to another airline, that decided it wasn't as important as their own customers..hence it had to wait until their airline had a flight coming to HI.

Don't really know "92% of what".. As usual, I was doing two things at the same time and it was on the Channel 6 news - Jack Arnecke, I think.. He was reporting that loss of luggage was up 92% since the new security guidelines began - and I think he was also interviewing a bunch of people at the airport here whose luggage didn't arrive "with" them.. :confused3

I really wish I was rich.. I'd pack nothing - and buy all "new" when I got there and then ditch it before I came back! :rotfl:

Meds, of course, go in the carry on. With the appropriate labels. I don't have any, but, if I did, that is where they would be. I carry on: my dig. camera, my laptop (when I choose to bring it), my book, my drink coupons (never fly without them, lol), my confirmations, my purse stuff. That is it.

When we used to fly to FL in the winter. I realized I would be doing laundry to keep my packing to a minimum. I also flew SWA, which at that time, allowed three bags @ 70# each. I usually only had two bags, with an empty fold up duffel. :) Always managed to stay warm or cool with a min. of packing.
