Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this(you guys are always patient with me though, so thanks :) ). Do the non-DVC resorts generally follow the same trends as the DVC point charts? In other words, is it safe to assume that time periods that cost less points at DVC will probably cost fewer dollars at retail? I’m solidifying my dates and want to be sure I’m not picking a stupid time to go.

I would vote No. But it is a bit complicated to answer. DVC adjusts point charts every year or two lately to spread out demand or incentives if you will. however the amount of points must be the same yearly. Cash is simple they have a formula that expects resorts to be booked to X percentage by X amount of time before, if not they can run a promotion. To go back to DVC however there are no promotions on the other side if a room is not occupied everyday someone is losing the points. (there is more to that but for this question) An example DVC is very popular in the fall… difficult time to get a room if you don’t book at 11 months also higher points than summer. Disney cash rooms in the past have bigger discounts then summer.

Thank you for the feedback. This is so confusing lol

Generally, DVC point charts follow the same trends as non-DVC resorts at WDW, but it is by no means perfect.

For example, Christmas to New Year and Easter week are the most expensive for DVC points. These generally are the most expensive for Disney hotel rooms. Spring break (late February to mid April) and Thanksgiving also are expensive for DVC and non-DVC.

But there are some exceptions. Some unofficial DVC websites (and maybe Tourplans.com?) have done an analysis, showing that the savings by renting DVC points can vary throughout the year.

Gotcha. To muddle things up even more, I’m considering renting DVC depending on what’s most cost-effective and available during my dates. Right now I’m trying to decide between late March of 23, summer of 23, or October of 23.

With the 2023 point redistribution, summer will require the fewest points, March the most.

Let's use a Preferred View Studio at the Boardwalk Villas (BWV) as an example:
  • 1 week in July or August: 116 points
  • 1 week in October: 130 points
  • 1 week in March: 139 points

The studios are the best bang for your buck dvc wise. However, a 1bd is double the points, while, with rack rates, the 1bd is not much more than a studio.

I will add that your best chances at renting will be in the summer. Fall and spring break are considerably harder as a renter.
