Ours do because each quarter grade is worth 40% of the semester grade. The final semester exam is worth 20%. Semester grades are what our HS uses to calculate GPA.
I would imagine that other HS's might work it somewhat differently, but I would think that the quarter grades would be figured in somehow.
For our students, it depends on when credit is given for a course. (I.e., If the course awards 1/2 credit at the quarter, then the grade counts towards GPA; if the course doesn't award half credits -- like English and algebra where you can only get the whole credit or none -- the only grade that counts towards GPA is the semester credit.) I know, it's confusing. Our kids are usually seniors before they've got it down.
