Do quarter grades count toward high school GPA?

I should know this, but I don't...

Do quarter grades count towards a high school GPA, or is it just semester grades?

Ours do because each quarter grade is worth 40% of the semester grade. The final semester exam is worth 20%. Semester grades are what our HS uses to calculate GPA.
I would imagine that other HS's might work it somewhat differently, but I would think that the quarter grades would be figured in somehow.

For our students, it depends on when credit is given for a course. (I.e., If the course awards 1/2 credit at the quarter, then the grade counts towards GPA; if the course doesn't award half credits -- like English and algebra where you can only get the whole credit or none -- the only grade that counts towards GPA is the semester credit.) I know, it's confusing. Our kids are usually seniors before they've got it down.

Grades are issued quarterly and count towards graduation in 9th grade (freshamn year).

In our high school, it's only the final grade in a course that counts toward the GPA. Several years ago, they only counted major academic courses for GPA, but now all courses are included. Uh oh, never mind, I was thinking of class rank!

So for a year course (like oh, say, math) only the final grade of the year counts?

In our school district, every grading period counts towards the GPA. They will average that GPA out over the course of the 4 years of high school.

In my HS it was only the semester grades. Every school district is different.

DD's quarter grades are not recorded as part of their permanent record, but are added to the semester grade which does count.
