Do PIN/Promo discounts use higher base figure than rack rate?!

For our upcoming trip, the Disney site AND WDWInfo list the rack rate for our room type and dates at $459/night before taxes and fees, but when I called in, they told me the non-discounted rate is $544.50/night (incl. tax/fees).

I though taxes were 12.5% (http://www.mousesavers.com/walt-dis...ls/disney-world-resort-hotel-discounts-codes/), which would make the rack rate + tax $516.38?

I don't want to be nit-picky but over a 5 day trip that's $140.62 in mystery charges, so I wasn't sure if they were using a different rack rate than the ones published? Anyone have any insight?

Did you check rack rate on the Disney website? Can you tell us what room you are looking at? Are you sure they are quoting you for the same room category?

I'm sure it was the same room category, etc. and I even priced it on the phone w/the CM. Arusha View AKL in early May 2013. I have no idea where they got their figure!

We're they looking at a weekend rate versus weekday?

Nope definitely same dates, I couldn't really get a straight answer. My total with them and the PIN was less than the current promo online but only by ~$150, so I called for more info and it just doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe worth while checking the fine print on your PIN..last time I had one it was valid for AKL for to get the biggest discount I had to book a standard room - if you wanted savannah view it was still discounted but no where near as much as standard..

I think they are having trouble with the reservations system. When I called a couple of days ago to move my dates the cm quoted me rates much higher than the rack rates online. I asked her if those were the military rates and she said yes that was what the computer was saying. When I told her the military rates for the resort I was trying to book should be 30% she said it was UP TO 30%. :confused3 I asked to speak to a supervisor and it was at this point that I finally got the rate it should have been.

My point in all of this is do not be afraid to ask to speak to a supervisor if you do not feel if you are getting the rates you think are correct.

Thanks, I think I will call back. The PIN was 35% Standard, 25% Savannah/Arusha according to the CM. We are only staying on weekday rate (arriving Sunday, departing Friday) May 5-10, Arusha view.

Rack rate for that time should be $459/night. It listed that rate on the Disney site itself when I double-checked non-discounted, and it also says it here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-deluxe-2013.htm#akl

459 * 5 = $2,295 plus taxes and fees.

The CM on the phone said that when she enters the dates for non-discounted (rack) rate, she comes up with $2,722.50 including taxes and fees. 12% taxes and fees comes to $2,570. $150 difference. She said that with my discount, my room (with taxes and fees) comes to $2,077.10 which, if you take out 12% taxes and fees, comes to 370/night which is only a 20% not 25% discount.

I know it's not the end of the world, but don't see how they can be calculating on a base that's higher than the rack rate unless there is an error somewhere. I hesitate to ask for a supervisor, I don't want to be a pain, but wondered if anyone else had had this experience or knew how the calculations worked.

How many are in your party? If there are 3 adults, there is an extra $25 added to each night. Also, not that it would make a big difference, but I believe the tax is 12.5%. If there is an additional adult, the total cost would be $2077 with the discount for 5 nights:

$459-114.75= $344.25 (rack rate - 25%)

$344.25 + 25 (add'l adult) = $369.25/nt

$369.25 + 46.15 (tax) = $415.40 x 5 = $2077

ETA: The $2722.50 is including an extra adult:

$459 + $25 (add'l adult fee) = $484

$484 + 60.50 (tax) = $544.50 x 5 = $2722.50

We are 2 adults, 1 child (4), and 1 infant (1).

That's interesting that the extra adult fee matches exactly though. Maybe it's worth calling again, I just don't want to be a pain. I'm relieved to hear it may be an error though. I wasn't sure if I would post and the answer would be "of course, it's based on Rack+100"
Or something crazy!

Yeah, that's bizarre! I just checked the website as well and they definitely quoted you for 3 adults! Yikes!

By my calculations (and they could be wrong!), your total should be $1,936.41.

$459 - $114.75 (25%) = $344.25 x 12.5% tax = $387.28 per night x 5 = $1936.41

Let us know what they tell you next!!!

That is very strange. Maybe the CM accidentally put in 3 adults and 1 child instead of 2 and 2 :confused3. That's the only thing I can think of to make the figures come out the same.

That's what I come up with too when figuring 2 adults/2 children.

I think that too - I'm going to call. Thanks so much!

Maybe ask to speak with a supervisor when you call back if you're still getting the same figures.

I think the last CM just didn't know what she was talking about. The CM I spoke with tonight was awesome and walked me through it. She, too, thought something seemed weird and that my PIN might not apply to Arusha, only Savannah. We went through both scenarios and it looks like it's calculating right. $1936.41 for the room (incl. tax), $869.04 for tickets, $151.90 for insurance = $2,957.35. My total package was $2,960.94 so I'm OK with ~$3 difference. Disney math is seriously beyond me, but I'm good. I really appreciate everyone helping! I have NO idea why the CM yesterday said the room was $2,077 but I'm glad she was wrong!
