Do people think you are nuts?

HI Kaitlyn, and welcome to the DIS boards! I loved your post. It sounds like your family has lots of happy memories at WDW. That's what I want for our family too. My DD is almost 12, and those scary teen years are looming. I sure hope she doesn't decide at some point that WDW is boring or not cool. No signs of that now. She gets teased by her friends, too, though it's probably a little more mean spirited in mid school.

I work at home, so I'm a little isolated from my co-workers. The only ones who realize how often we go are close family members. Since we own DVC, we've invited them to go, but they have declined due to cost of airfare, tickets, etc. So they can't say much about how often we go, at least we offered! And we do vary our vacations a little, we went on a Disney Cruise! Gotta do that again, too! My DH wants to go to an island somewhere in the Caribbean sometime so he can scuba. DD will be certified shortly too, so I guess I will be outnumbered. It will be a sad day though. There better at least be some shopping.

Please don't flame me!

I love Disney, have been several times and am really looking forward to our next trip there. There really is something there for everyone.

But I also love Cape Cod and Nantucket, southern California,Palm Beach, the Jersey shore and any cruise. And so many great places I have yet to see. I would prefer to visit all these places periodicallly so as to enjoy them all rather than one place all the time.

Maybe this is what friends and family have in mind when they shake their heads or make comments. But they should keep their opinions to themselves.

Every year, my family spent two weeks in NH, at a lake. It was very nice, we saw the same people every year. Then, my dh,dd, and I started spending two weeks on Cape Cod every summer. Same scenario. Now, we spend one week in WDW. This will be my third trip down. Now, the way people react to my plans makes you think that I've been to WDW every year since the beginning of time!!! Each time we find something different to do or see. My ex-dh and I finally have something to agree on...he actually goes to WDW now, with his wife, dd and a friend, and he and the wife just sit at the resort, doing nothing while the girls (15) go off on their own. Can you imagine??!!!! People think nothing of going on a cruise every year, or going to the same cottage every year. But let them hear you planning a trip to WDW, even every two years, and they'll call you a fanatic. Summer of '04 we'll be taking a cross country trip from Ma to Pacific Northwest. I'm sure that if I really get into planning that with the same attention to detail that I use planning my WDW trips, people will call me a fanatic about that too. I think it's just sour grapes time.

Every one thinks we are NUTS and well we are Nuts about WDW. I always get those rolling eyes and that big sigh when we tell our families that were heading back to WDW! We always get don't you want to try something different? Have some adventure, education? I say yup that's why were heading back to WDW. It is always an adventure (specialy since 9/11 seeing I'm trying to get through the airport with a bald headed hispanic man witha gotee)LOL!!!!!! And everything in Disney is educational!!!!!!
We were looking into going to Atlantis this year for our vacation but when we were checking it out we said I don't think so! We can spend an extra 9 days in WDW for that price!
What really drive my family nuts is when I told them instead of getting a new car and having the monthly payments we're going to go to WDW!

This happens to me all the time, and I live on the East Coast. Even Dh's family always make comments like " Your going to Disney AGAIN?"
We love it, its safe, and has something for everyone!

We're going to Disney for our honeymoon and I get the strangest looks when I tell people where we're going! I think they're the crazy ones- Disney's the happiest place on Earth- who wouldn't want to go there!!

Great stories and so reassuring to hear about other's struggles! I avoid even bringing up the topic of my trips at work as any attempt to explain is met with a grunt and rolling eyes. We did not have the good fortune of going as children so only transformed into a Disney family 5 years ago. Now we coordinate trips with my parents and sister and all share in the planning. Our girls are now a bit older so traveling is easier and my husband is now officially a Disney nut as well.

Agree wholeheartedly about Disney being a wonderful escape from reality. I give myself totally to the entire experience beginning the second we arrive at the resort. When stressed at work I fixate on the magic I will have with my girls on our vacation. I am commited to raising both of them into Disney nuts as well.

Yeah, we get the "What do you want to keep going back there for?" comments from our family. We just say, "'Because we love it!" and go away thinking smugly, "They just don't know what they're missing!". :)

At first, yes, everyone thought I was crazy. But after hearing about DVC, AK, Epcot food adventures and all the fun we have, they now know why and think we're pretty smart....;)

They are just jealous because we get it and they don't. I just tell people we own property there and go to check on it. ;)

Friends and family have finally stopped making comments on my many, many trips to my favorite world - now they just ask - "so when is your next trip planned?"
Been there, Done that, Going back!!!

I like this answer as well. It certainly will stop further conversation, questions and remarks.

Some clueless people will ask: "Why are you going there AGAIN?" and I will answer: "Because its THERE!";)

A lot of people just do not get that same feeling like my family and i do...it just depends. It's like i make the announcement and i get the the familiar "your going to disney AGAIN?? Why?? They havn't built anything new lately??" I love traveling other places, but feel like i'm gonna die if i cannot make it to Disney one year. I've gone like 11 straight times in a row and even lived there last year for 5 months. I'm still crazy about it and miss it! And i'm only 21...I'll be heartbroken if my children don't like it (that is when i have them).

I think a lot of the Disney love might have something to do with staying on-site too. I know many people love it even if they do not stay at a Disney resort, but it can make a big difference. I never want to stay off property again.
:smooth:
