We have been happily married for 14 years now and we get that reaction all the time. And we live in the Bible belt! I tell them get back to us on our 50th and then we will have something to talk about.
Sorry for the high horse but I gotta say it. God is in our marriage and He is the reason we are still together. Sure it takes all give and very little take but without Him in our lives we are nothing, period. We are Christians but we are not perfect. It still takes a lot of work. And with Him we can succeed.
When I was a little boy going to weddings I listened to those vows and I took those words serious. I still take those words serious today. Most marriages would last if people took those words serious but most unfortunately never hear them and take them to heart.
I will continue to smile as we continue to be laughed at and ridiculed for our marriage being strong. Thats OK. We can take the persecution. No problem. All the while we are teaching our kids to take those vows serious too. Will they be guaranteed a lifelong marriage. No. Will they have a foundation to build upon. Yes. Thats the most we can give.
Sorry for the rant
