Do people ALWAYS spell your name wrong?

Woops! I guess it was good I didn't get married in a church! I can imagine that being an issue for your son. Hope it all got straightened out! Did he have to get married under his baptized name?

ha, yes he did - although license (issued by the county has the correct info as to his legal name)

we go to a different church now, didn't seem to phase priest @ all:confused3

:lmao: hi thomas, could've been tomasina?

maybe not, too much of a girl sounding name....

I am Ilisa. Besides misprounouncing it a hundred different ways, I have seen it spelled, llisa, Illisa, Illissa, Ilissa, Elsa, Ilise, Elise and lord knows how many other ways.

My real name is Jeralyn, but I have always gone by Jerry. Most people write it as Jeri since I am female. I don't mind at first, but after we have had a lot or correspondence and they have seen it written correctly many times, I'm not sure why they don't get it. Of course, I get a lot of mail calling me Mister. :lmao: That is the kind of mail that I can ignore.

My name is misspelled all the time, heck I even have relatives, that after 38 years can't spell it right. Everyone assumes it's a C. Last weekend we went to Red Lobster, 2 girls were putting people on the list for tables. One girl had the same name as me, spelled the same, on her name tag. The other girl wrote my name down and spelled it with a C. I don't care how they write it on the list, but I thought it was funny since the girl standing next to her had it correct on her name tag.

You'd think that would help....both of my girls have normal names with normal spellings. People frequently ask me how to spell them. I guess they assume everyone likes creative spellings. :confused3
Now, that's funny! :lmao:Yes, it sure does seem that everyone wants to spell names "creatively". FWIW, my DD's name is uncommon, but not unusual. Her name is "Celia" and it is has never, to my knowledge, been spelled wrong. I guess one day someone will be bound to spell it "Cielyah" or "Sealia" or something equally weird. Right now I just try not to roll my eyes too much at her nick name with her friends which is "Cee Cee". *sigh*

My legal first name is Marion. I get Mary Ann, Marianne, Marian, Miriam, Marilyn. So now I go by Claire, (my middle name) usually they get it right except for the girl at the Segway tour who spelled it Clarie.

This pissed me off when I worked outside of the home. My name (Susanna) rhymes with Madonna. It does not rhyme with banana. I hit a point where I refused to respond to my manager because after a year of working for her I could only assume that if she called the wrong name she was talking to someone else. (This is the same witch who incurred my wrath by calling me for no pressing reason when I was a) on vacation b) at Disneyland and c) In the middle of lunch at Club 33. :headache: I loathed that woman.) I also took to calling my co-worker Patty "Pamela" because I was not "Sue-Zon" or "Suzanne". I even wrote "RHYMES WITH MADONNA" on my white board and would point at it when people who knew better called me the wrong name.

I'll admit that I would not pronounce Susanna to rhyme with Madonna, at first. But if you corrected me after the first time I said "Sue-zanna", I'd most certainly correct myself from then on. It isn't THAT hard, people!

Not necessarily along the same lines, but turns out my brother called my work looking for me asking for me by "Jodie Maiden Name." I've been married for a few years now, and took my husband's married name immediately. The person who answered the phone didn't know who he was talking about because he'd only been in my organization for less than a year, and didn't know me before I was married or what my maiden name was. My own brother. Geez!

LOL AlesandNessa...... I have a hard time calling my DSi by her "new" (married 4 yrs now I guess) married name. and DNi by her "new" adopted name. My sis was married previously for right at 20 yrs and continued to use that last name professionally up until 2 yrs ago. At first she hypenated the last names. Then after her ex passed away her husband adopted her DD. Now I have to get use to both of them having a new last name.

MY NAME IS STEVIE [FEMALE] AND ITS ANNOYIN BECAUSE PPL ALWAYS ASSUME IM A BOY BEFORE THEY MEET ME, THEY FORGET THAT STEVIE IS A UNISEX NAME.

SOMETIMES I GET CALLED STEV-EE INSTEAD OF STEE-VEE. A FEW TIMES IVE BEEN CALLED STEVE! GAH IT REALLY ANNOYYSS MEE AT TIMES

STEVIE RAWWRR <3

Eh, my name is uncommon and my last name is long. So if I am not spelling it to them, it is always misspelled.

Heck they will misspell it as I am dictating how to spell it. Now that is crazy.:lmao:

My nama is Julia...They dont misspell it they mispronounce it. It clearly has a "A" at the end of it..Not a "E". Drive's me crazy

Yea, I'm Kristin, but I get Kristen all the time...ugh. And my last name is a whole other story...

My own mother spelled my name wrong on my birth certificate! Top that!!!

BTW - My name is Sarah - I can understand if she forgot the "H" or something, but no, she spelled it Sarha - what the hell is Sarha!!??

My name is Jodie. Not Jodi or Jody. I understand if people I meet for the first time (or have only spoken to over the phone) spell my name wrong when they address me in writing for the first or second time. I get that. Honest. Jodie isn't the most popular spelling of my name.

This is what bothers me: if I've written you an email and clearly signed my name, or I've sent you an IM when my name is clearly listed in the header of the IM window, or you've bothered to contact me by looking me up in our employee directory where my name is spelled right, some people still spell my name wrong, even after immediately seeing it spelled correctly. It bothers me most especially when they spell it wrong on rosters other people reference.

I had a manager for 2 years (who knew me for 7 years before that) who would write my performance appraisals with my name bouncing back and forth from Jodi to Jody to my favorite Jodee. I have several colleagues I work with regularly via webmeetings (my name is on the attendee list) and emails and IMs who never spell my name right. Ever. Teachers, neighbors, friends .... it's always been the same.

I have never said a word to anyone, except for that manager who wrote my performance appraisals. But it matters to me, and obviously it bothers me. Especially at work when you communicate with someone and your name is all over the place and they still can't get it right. I actually get excited when people spell my name correctly!

My company preaches "Respect for Individuals" as one of our core values. Would that not include learning how to spell my name?

Are names just not important to some people?

Do you have a name that's spelled differently? Can you relate?

I quoted the entire OP because this has been my life story, even down to the same name and spelling. The only difference is that with my boss, I had been with the company for 5 years and she still alternated between Jodi and Jody. GRR. I also briefly dated a guy who'd continually misspelled my name, even when responding to emails that not only came from me (in Yahoo, I have my email set to show email as being from Jodie XXXX, not just the email address), but also were signed by me! That was a big reason why the "dating" was brief. I mean, if you can't even be bothered to spell my friggin' name correctly... :headache:

ETA: Wow, holy old post! Just noticed that.

My name is Gregg with two g's at the end, people are forever spelling it with one g or extending it to Gregory, which is also not my name. It used to bother me a lot, but now realize it isn't that big a deal.

Two weeks ago, we were doing a formal introduction thing at one of the lodges I belong to, everyone filled out a card with their name and title, the guy calling out the names announced me as Gregory, even though it clearly said Gregg on the card... what are you going to do.

Yes, both my first & last names. They are hard to spell. And most people can't pronounce either name.

Oh, and anothing thing - my own father calls my DD Sophia - her name is Sophie, not Sophia. That really bothers me!
