Do people ALWAYS spell your name wrong?

Just remember this thread when you have children and you have the urge to name them something "unusual".

Well I wish you had told me that before I did it to my girls. The oldest is Miranda which is now becoming a normal name. The youngest is Allyson. Yep I spelled it wrong. You can't find anything for souvies with thier names on them. You would think I would have learned after the first one (who just happens to be 15 years older than the second one)!

My niece's name is Kaitelynne. :sad2:

Clearly we should just exchange friends and family. Then everyone wouldn't get confused. :rotfl:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Now for my story...

My name is Lori. I really don't care how people spell it but I would always go with the easiest if I didn't know how to spell a name. But people are always doing Laurie, Loree, Lorie, Laura and so on. :confused3

Anyway the reason it doesn't bother me is because it is spleed wrong in the first place. My mother did it wrong on my birth certificate. I was named after my grandmothers middle names. My first name is actually Lorine, but my grandmothers was Lorene. Of course she got the other one right because it ie hers too. :headache:

And then there is the whole last name thing. My maiden name was Bell. My entier life I have been called Loribell, as you can see in my screen name. I grew up in a very small town and my school only went to the 8th grade. When I started high school it was with all new people that I had never known before. I went through the entire first semester of school with all my new friends calling me Loribell. Well this was normal for me. I had always been called that. After the second semester started one of my new really good friends said to me one day "Loribell what is your last name?" :lmao:

So my mother spelled my name wrong and she also spells my sons name wrong. It is a really tough unusual one...Michael. :confused3 My mother in law spells Miranda wrong all the time. And my first and last names go together perfectly. So well in fact that I just added a camp to the beginning so the bell would always be there.

I am on a weird misspelling streak. I have a simple name- Tracy. At work it is entered in the computers as "Tracey" so it always prints out. I got an invitation to "Tracie" recently, too. "ie"? Really?

Yup - that would be me TRACIE - so....what did I get invited too??? :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm a Toni.

Trying to pay for my first semester of college through the *little window*. (EONS ago. I assume now it's all done online or in some non face-to-face way...LOL!)

Lady says "Name?"

Tell her my name.

"FULL name?"

That IS my full name.

"No, I mean your FULL NAME"

YES.....that IS my FULL NAME.

"What's your full FIRST name. What's it short for?"

THAT IS MY FULL FIRST NAME! IT'S NOT SHORT FOR ANYTHING!

"Are you sure?"

Seriously?!? I wonder about people sometimes!:sad2:

I so FEEL your pain! I got put on detention at school for not putting my 'full' name on the front of my books. I tried to explain that my name is just Jacqui not Jacqueline but that got me an extra detention for being 'cheeky'. My mother was FURIOUS! She marched to the headteachers office with a copy of my birth certificate and insisted that the teacher involved gave me a public apology for her attitude!:cool1:

I never had any further problems at school about my name!!!!! :lmao:

Some of these stories reminded me that when I was in school, people would ask me my real name. I would say Jodie is my real name. No dear, what is the name on your birth certificate?

Jodie!

No, Jodie is just your nickname. It must be Josephine. Is it?

No!!!!!!!

Now, the priest would not baptize me Jodie. I was baptized Judith, but Jodie is on my birth certificate. I promise!

Lori, my mom is Lorrie! But that is short for Lorraine, which she HATES, and no one dare call her!

Huh! He would not baptize you under your real name?

Well the middle name that she made sure she spelled right...

Fontaine. So my name is Lorine (supposed to be Lorene) Fontaine Bell. She was mad that I wouldn't give one of my girls that middle name. It was tradition. Told he it was not my tradition. :rolleyes1

Probably really made her mad when Ally was named after two people in dh's family.

You'd think that would help....both of my girls have normal names with normal spellings. People frequently ask me how to spell them. I guess they assume everyone likes creative spellings. :confused3

My name gets misspelled fairly often. Then again, no one has been named Lillian since 1912. I am always asked "How many L's?" and answer "Three."

I'm one too. Mine is spelled Traci, but I get all the other spellings (Tracy, Tracey, Tracie). It also irks me when someone responds to an email and spells it wrong. My name is right there! Especially at work, where they see my name in the address book. I guess I'm one of the few who makes a conscious effort to spell people's names right.

One time, someone commented that I have the "California spelling". :confused3 I don't know, my mom picked it, not me.

Doncha know there was no "St. Jodie?" Go figure! I didn't know there was a St. Judith, but then I am bound for the bows of the underworld! ;)

They would not baptize me as Tracie.......So technically I am Tracie Ann, both on Birth and Baptismal Cert :) However, the only person to ever cll me that is Mom.....when she is pissed at me :lmao: :lmao:

I'm in Hawaii and I cannot count the number of times I have to spell my name (Heather) for people, yet they can spell a Hawaiian name w/ 15 consonants and one vowel that I can't even pronounce w/o pause...lol.
Our last name is never spelled or said correctly...ever. It is French, so I don't expect people to say it correctly, but at least say the letters in order. People are always transposing two of the letters in our last name. It's not hard to say by any means, and we can never figure out WHY people feel the need to rearrange the letters before they say it.

Oh yeah when both names are used you better run! That's how I knew she was really mad because she knew I hated my middle name and would be very mad at her if she used it.

Wasn't there a St. Judie? Oh wait, that was St. Jude. Or is he really a St? I know it is a very good children's hospital.

jodee - quite a funnee read

RCs tend to insist on a "real name" aka saint, etc. Had to baptize my oldest DS under an alias, ran into a bit of an issue when we got married...as in his 1st name didn't match name of baptism certificate.:upsidedow

Woops! I guess it was good I didn't get married in a church! I can imagine that being an issue for your son. Hope it all got straightened out! Did he have to get married under his baptized name?

Yes, always. I think I can count on one hand the amount of times they have gotten it right. My mother's fault I think :teeth:

My name is Terri. I have an aunt who keeps spelling it Teri.

Other people keep spelling it Terry.

No people, it's T- E- R - R - I!

Of course, that's short for Teresa. Tons of people keep trying to spell it Theresa. Sorry, no H in my name.
