Do people ALWAYS spell your name wrong?

Mine is either spelled wrong or just completely WRONG name. My mom said when I was little I would always correct people. Now I can't even remember when I corrected someone. My name is Kristin. Of coures most Kristin's are spelled with an E. People also don't listen very well when I give them my name so people write my name as Christine, Kristy, Krista, etc....You get the picture. Fun Fun. I don't even try anymore to correct people.

My husband also has a name that could be spelled 2 different ways. His is Erik most people spell it Eric.

Nope.. not with Lisa but with 3 out of my 4 kids yes. My kids names (besides the oldest) is the traditional way... no wacky spellings. But I always get is that with a C or K.... or is that a s or z. Now my son is Alverto... and it usually gets spelled as Alberto

Just remember this thread when you have children and you have the urge to name them something "unusual".

Not usually - just one of my DH's aunts, for the past 33 years :sad2:

My own grandmother ALWAYS spelled my name Tammie :sad2: For 34 years my mother tried to tell her it was Tammy. She never got it right

My last name? ALL the time. What's funny is when I am spelling it to someone over the phone and the person on the other end usually seems to think they know how to spell my last name better than I do.

agnes!

My niece's name is Kyrstyne. Pronounced Kirsten. I was spelling it for the manager at McDonald's so she could order the cake for her birthday party we were having there. She kept insisting I was spelling it wrong! She said that spelling wasn't even pronouncable, even though I told her how to say it, she kept trying to sound it out like K-eye-rist-eye-nie :sad2: Excuse me, I'm the kid's aunt. I know how to spell and pronounce her name. I didn't give it to her, don't blame me. Just trust me, I know what it is, now put it on the dang cake

yes, my entire life, spelling and pronunciation. My mom didn't want people calling me Missy, so she shortened my name to Leasi. It is pronounced Lisa, plain and simple. Oddly enough, the most common mispronounciation is Leslie. Do you see two l's? Seriously!

The upside is that when telemarketers call for me they never pronounce it correctly. When we got married, I told my husband that if the person calling didn't pronounce my name correctly, I didn't want to talk to them. I obviously don't know them!. He thought that was hysterical the first time I told someone they had the wrong number and they were asking for Lesie!:rotfl:

See..now my niece is Krystyna.. (aka Christina) so when I see your nieces name Krystyne I would think it was Christine.

Ok... coming from another Lisa... I would never of figured out that pronunciation.

Nothing "plain and simple" about it. I don't see how you get "Lee-sah" out of "Leasi". I would pronounce it "Lee-see".

If you or your child has an unusual name they why kvetch about how people pronounce or spell it? It seems kinda pointless.

My formal first name, sure. I'm Stephen instead of Steven. Not a big deal, though, as most of the time I go by Steve, but it doesn't really bother me if someone puts "Steven" on something, as it's just another typical way of spelling my name. If you have a name that has different common variations, you have to expect to get a variety of spellings.

Heck, I misspelled my future wife's name on the first card (Valentine's Day) I ever gave to her. :headache: :rolleyes1 :lmao:

I meant the pronounciation was plain and simple, not the spelling, of course. That is how my mom wanted it spelled and she didn't care if they said it wrong or spelled it wrong, she just felt it suited me. I couldn't care less either, to be honest. It doesn't bother me, it's just the way it is.

I have a good friend named Candice. She used to work CS and unbelievably when she would say her name some people actually thought she said Panda. Who the heck is gonna name their kid Panda?

Its actually now her nickname in our group of friends :rotfl:

My correct name is Alan. I get lots of Allen, Alen, Allan, sometimes just Al, etc.

People are always misspelling my name. My name is Lisabeth, not Elizabeth or Elisabeth, or Lisa Beth! My nickname is Lisbet (Lees-bet) not Lisa or Liza or Liz (especially not Liz) or Lizzy, etc. I can spell my name for someone and they will still misspell it.
Eventually you just give up and figure it will happen again and again. My advice after almost 60 years of this. Give up and don't freak out about it. It really is not worth it.

My name is spelt the US way - Beverly, not the traditional British way - Beverley.

I am forever having to spell it out to people and even when I tell them there is no 'E' before the 'Y' they still put it in, or take out another 'E' instead. (Bevrley!)

Gawd yes. My mother, I suppose under the influence of drugs during the birth, threw an extra E in my name. It is Kelley (more common as a last name). My grandmother would send me Christmas cards. My entire life...the envelope would be addressed to Kelly, the card would have Kelley and the check would have Kellie. No lie. I guess she figured, somewhere in there she would get it right. :goodvibes
It does bother me at times, especially if, like the OP said, it is ALL OVER the email or IM or such. Even when someone responds to the email with my text in the reply, they still spell it wrong. I used to ignore it. The older I get, the more I correct people.
Celebrate the uniqueness of me dangit!!!:dance3:

I'm Christina. Not Kristina not Khristina not Cristina (I get that one the most) not Kirsten. I do shorten to Chris but never Chrissy, Tina, Christy (or Christi) or anything else. AND I AM NOT CHRISTINE! That's my biggest pet peeve. My name has a "A" on the end, not an "E"

Welllll....I deal with a lot of different people during interviews and one of the first things I do is to have them spell their name and then tell me the correct way to say it.

You would be suprised at the crazy way people decide to spell common sounding names, and seem to think it is refinement to spell it with extra letters, or "silent" letters and extra vowels thrown in!

There dosn't seem to be a default "common spelling" anymore!

I get monic or moneek alot. My last name I can barely spell though somedays so no way would I expect someone else to spell it right.

My daughter is Larisa with one s, not Larissa. Now, while I do not mind strangers misspelling it, my DH's family should know how to spell it since the child is already 9 YO and I have been spelling it the same way since she was born. :sad2:
