Do people ALWAYS spell your name wrong?

My name is Karyn, with a Y...most people spell it with an E. Most of the time I don't care that much, but as the OP said, it bugs me most when it is someone that should know or have observed it.

I am Mary Lou... not Marilu, Marylou, Mary Kay, Mary Beth, Mary Ellen, Mary Anne, Mary Kate or just plain Mary!:lmao:

Now, our last name is also a fairly common first name. People often call my husband by his last name thinking it's his first name, but that's another story.
LOL...yep DH and DS get that all the time.
DS is named after FIL. When we named him I didn't think about the fact that his 1st name is a common last name, so his really gets mixed up.
DS's first name often gets miss-spelled too. There are 2 common spellings so it's not that bad if someone spells it Russel instead of Russell. However I have a friend who spells it Rusle and another one that spells it Rusel. I've known the 1st one for over 20 yrs and the other for almost 7. You would think that they would have noticed how his name is spelled.

Oh lord yes!!! My given name is Tamera. Rhymes with camera. Spelled like it too. No matter how many times I spell it and emphasize the pronunciation it always winds up Tamara and people call me Tam-air-a or Tam-are-a. My nickname is Tammy. It's not Tami, Tammie or Tamee. How hard is that?

My last name is always butchered too but I give people a pass on that because although it's uncommon, it sounds a lot like a pretty common danish name. Even better! My maiden name is a very ethnic and unusual german name. It's always fun when I go by Tamera Maiden Married name. People's heads almost explode trying to pronounce them together :lmao:

People have misspelled and mispronounced my name since I was a child, even my teachers. It's Darla. I have always wondered...if you hear it, how else could you possibly spell it and if you see it written, how else would you possibly pronounce it?

I've learned that if I tell them "It's just like Carla, except with a D.", they can almost always say it and spell it.

My name is not uncommon, unusual or different. It is Sandra. Not Sondra, Saundra, Sandre, Sandy, Cassandra, Sarah or Sonja. I have gotten them all.

People rarely spell or say my name correctly. I've just gotten used to it over the years. That is probably the reason all 4 of my children have common, easy to spell names.

My name is Rebecca. I go by that or Becky. My boss calls me "Becka". Even if I wanted to be a "Becca" (which I don't:headache: ) I would spell it with 2 c's or the Hebrew way with an "H".

Yes. It's Dodie. D-o-d-i-e. Not Dotty. Not Dottie. Not Doty. Not Dodi.

I understand that it's an uncommon name, but, if we send you a Christmas card every year with our names on it, you would think you could spell it correctly. Or - if it's in my e-mail signature, how hard is it to look at that?

DH is Corey, not Cory... HIS relatives still don't spell it correctly.. :rotfl:
DS is Erich, not Eric... We get that one a lot too; most recently on DS report card- written by his teacher! :rotfl2: It was in a sentence about slowing down on work, and DS making mistakes because he goes too fast.. DH was almost on the floor with that one, DS just rolled his eyes. :rotfl:
I am Cindy, not Cindi, not Cyndi.. I don't get too many screw ups.
DD just goes by her nickname Tia. very simple, very easy.. don't even try spelling her name- Christiana.. she gets Christina every time she goes to the doctor or dentist.. and I sit in the waiting room, looking around to make sure there ISN'T a Christina before we get up!

I get it all the time. I'm Krystal, so when I introduce myself (particularly when making appointments) the other person will automatically begin spelling it with a C (understandably). When I correct them, however, it completely throws them off and I have to spell the whole thing, even though the rest is the common spelling.

My surname is also quite uncommon, so I have to spell that too, as well as spelling Dbf's name whenever I make appointments for him.

Not usually - just one of my DH's aunts, for the past 33 years :sad2:

My name is Lindsay.

Not:
Lindsey
Linsey
Linzee
And for the love of Pete, not LESLIE

ACK!

We are Kristina and Heath LastName.

About half the time, people spell my name Christina. On rare occasions, dh is called/addressed on paper as Keith. Even people who have known us for years sometimes make these slip-ups. It's very odd. :confused3

Like another poster explained, if I say, "Kristina with a K, Heath with an H," the spelling is usually correctly remembered and used. If not, it's hit or miss!

Yes indeedy. My first name is unusual, and our last name even more so. I deliberately chose easy-to-spell names for our daughters: Andrea and Zoe. Then they come out with the show Zoey 101, thanks a lot! :upsidedow

My last name? ALL the time. What's funny is when I am spelling it to someone over the phone and the person on the other end usually seems to think they know how to spell my last name better than I do.

agnes!

First name all the time. They either automatically shorten it or add/take away letters in it.

Well, I feel you on the first name. I'm also a Jodi, but spelled differently. :wave2:

And I have the same issue your DH has. My last name is a male first name so that gets switched up in email with those who haven't met me or spoken to me on the phone.

Even better is that my full name is Jolinda and that really throws people for a loop because it apparently looks like a last name to some. :upsidedow

It never ceases to amaze me that people can't just look at my email signature and use the proper spelling when they reply to me. It's rude and it's lazy, but I have no shortage of rude and lazy co-workers.:sad2:

Thank you. That's how I feel too. It is lazy and rude, when it's right there in front of you on a regular basis.

:goodvibes This is my confirmation name. We had to wear a big banner around our necks with our confirmation name written on it during the ceremony. None of the nuns nor the Bishop knew how to say it. I certainly feel your DD's pain as well. :)

Yes, my name is Cristy no Ch, no ie, no ey. I've never found anything with my name already printed on it correctly. Doesn't everyone know that ch says "ch" not "c"? :confused3

My last name...yes...DEFINITELY. It's a fairly complicated Polish name with LOTS of consonents and not so many vowels.
