Do people ALWAYS spell your name wrong?

My name is JENIFER, not Jennifer.....1 N only. Nobody gets it right. Even some of my relatives:confused3

I get called Jen, which I don't particularly like. I know a few "Jen's", and they prefer that. Just because some Jens do, doesn't mean all Jenifers do :lmao: . I like Jenny or Jenifer.

Sure can relate! But I have to say it's my mother's fault, the spelling of my name is unusual, lol.
But it's never bothered me. Maybe it comes from having a twin sister and being called by her name on a regular basis as a kid. You grow up figuring if they get the name right then it's all good, however they spell it, LOL.

Yup, from my given "proper" name to the name I go by, no one can spell it right. :) But that's OK, I'm used to it now. :)

::yes:: Who knew so many people didn't watch Star Trek, and don't know how to spell Imzadi? :confused3

;)

Wow, I've got you all beat! My first name is Gráinne - no one can pronounce it, nevermind spell it! (I won't even mention my middle name!!)

anyone willing to try it?

That is a beautiful name! It's Gaelic isn't it? I don't speak Gaelic much but I think it's similar to saying yawnya.......I probably butchered that one! LOL Edited to say it's like yawnya but with a Gr instead of the y. LOL Grawnya...

My last name gets butchered quite a bit. It's Polish...lots of consonents in there. My mom used to joke that after I married DH she was going to have to take night classes at the local college to learn how to spell my newe last name.

My name is Kristi. I wonder how many times I have had to spell it for people.

You got it!! Could you imagine what I got growing up ...every new teacher..ugh! When I have to spell it for people now (like the hairdresser) I just tell them GRAWNYA and hope for the best....sheesh!

Oh me me! I'm Krystle. K-R-Y-S-T-L-E.. not Krystal, Crystal, Krystie, or Krysta. I stopped correcting people sometime in high school if it wasn't something that was legal or official. Like, if they take my name for a food order or something I'll usually just say my name and let them spell it how they like. It is INCREDIBLY aggravating, though, when I DO go through the effort to spell it out and then they STILL spell it wrong. The cable company at my last apartment spelled it Crystale and they refused to correct it and said that was the spelling I gave them. Really? REALLY?? I know how to spell my own gosh darn name.

At my old job, I worked with a lot of native spanish-speakers and they almost always called me Krystie - we wore name tags, so they usually just looked at it too fast. When they do finally figure it out, it just boggles their mind that someone would want to spell it that way, lol. I'll usually answer to anything that starts with Kr...

This is why on those name your baby posts people are always commenting on weird spellings of names not being a good idea. Sorry folks, you give your child a unique spelling of a common name you give up the right to be angry when people misspell the name.

I have a fairly common first name and my maiden name is a very common name in our area but has a slightly different spelling. I just spelled it for everyone. My married last name I THOUGHT would be the end of it as it is even more common and easy to spell but NO ONE knows how to spell it? One town we lived in had a billboard company that was the same as our last name-we never had to spell our name there :thumbsup2. It is very annoying but what can you do?

Nobody EVER spells (or says) my name right.

My name is Meaghan. It sounds like "MAYgan"... not "MEGan", FOR SURE not "MEEgan".

I can understand people not spelling it right, but pronouncing it has people so confused!

I guess since I have a son that struggles with spelling a lot, I have gotten over the issue of spelling errors. I'm just excited when things get spelled correctly.

The only person I ever had trouble with for spelling my first name was my brother (my son is very similar to him! :rotfl:) and he would spell it BeckEy -- basically phonetically. It took him forever to drop the extra E -- at the time he did it he wasn't being a brat about it, he honestly thought that is how you would spell my name. Now he spells it correctly (and occassionally will throw the E in there to be a goofball but he plays it up so you know he did it on purpose).

In the past, I never had an issue but with all the new variations of spellings for everything -- I basically have to spell out my first & last name. Our last name gets an extra letter put on it all the time but compared to my maiden name that would come in all sorts of variations, it's nothing.

I would actually spell Jodie correctly because I grew up knowing someone who spelled it that way. I'd probably be the guilty one of adding an e to someone's name that spelled it Jodi.

My DD is the one that only has issues with people pronouncing her name. I thought it was pretty easy when I named her, as I spelled it the traditional way and it is pronounced like it looks. Caro LYN but everyone is forever calling her Caro LINE. It drives her batty. I had no clue it would be an issue, I thought it was pretty obvious how to pronounce Carolyn but guess not.

I can't believe this thread has floated its way back again!

Just yesterday, someone looked me up in our employee directory, found my email address which starts with "jodie" and yet, still addressed me, "Jodi, please see my response."
I know it's only an "e" but still.

Thank you, Becky ... you are one of the few who would spell my name correctly by default. :)

YAY!!! I know that because my ex's BIL's Step Mom (huh? LOL) spoke Gaelic and she loved that name.....I like it too, like I said, it's beautiful! :)

FRT, I love my name and it's uniqueness, I love being different from all the Carrie/Kari/Kerry/Keri/etc's out there. What's even funnier, my BFF's name is Carrie....LOL

Not only is my first name spelled incorrectly (except for government paperwork), but pronounced wrong as well. I love to listen to new (to me) people say my name. I've heard some pretty creative doozies through the years. I've gotten numb to how people pronounce my name, but I also get excited when someone gets it right.

You bet I do. It is Suzanna. I am usually called Suzanne but I get Susan a lot too. I can handle a honest mistake but most people mispronounce my name out of pure laziness and that irritates me to no end.
