Do others have a hard time spending their points for weekends??

We will use our points on the weekend. It doens't seem very relaxing to have to keep moving.

We use points so far for only Sunday - Thursday vacations at DVC.
I hoard my points and just can not see paying more for those two extra days, at least not yet.

I have a harder time paying cash for a villa. We purchased the DVC points so that we could stay in the larger and more deluxe villa's - our move up from the all-stars and moderates. That is what the points are for.

I don't like to use points for weekends during high point periods but usually do in September. This trip next month will average 14 2/3/ points per night for our AKV savannah view studio and SST studio over the course of 9 nights. Had we planned better we would have had only 2 weekend nights instead of 3 for our 9 night stay. If I don't want to use weekend points we plan to stay at a less expensive offsite motel or at the most a Disney moderate resort. This is usually only an issue during trips Christmas or Easter week for us. As I typed this I got to thinking about the actual $ cost of the rooms for Sept. which based on my original cost and mf for this year is approx. $90 a night. Seems like a good deal to me.

We are new to DVC, our first trip home I think I used 68 points for a Fri and 68 points for a Saturday (2BR) stay during the Peak Easter holiday. Yes, in retrospect I gulp... but, I bought DVC so I wouldn't have to hand over any more cash for accommodations. I also don't like switching resorts it just doesn't seem relaxing to worry about packing up mid trip...transporting luggage and unpacking....
I think we will continue to use points on weekend just out of convenience

YES it really hurts, I'm doing it for my DD and SIL this year and it's killing me to see the number of points Fri and Sat take. They live in UK and flying over for 5 days is a waste of airfare, so I'll be a good Daddy and give up my points

For members like us who only vacation once each year for a week at a time, using points on the weekends is no big deal. Everyones situation is different of course, you have to do what's best for you. JMO

Thats probably a good explanation. If you vacation more than one per year, the thought of using in two day, weekend, what could be used as another five days vacation, during the week would be hard.

I don't think I have ever used points for a weekend night. But then again I don't mind moving. Actually I enjoy it. Just got back this past Saturday. We had 2 - 2 BR's at OKW, then we moved to AKV for the weekend (1 BR, cash discount), then we were off to 2 - 2 BR's at HHI.

We were traveling with my sisters family - the reason for the 2 - 2 BR. She was on her own for the weekend. We didn't have enough points for the weekends.

I'd rather pay cash on the weekends in order to bring family with us.

I have a hard time spending points on the weekend...what enters my mind is that could be 2 extra days during the week. We joined DVC Dec 07, and just added on another 160 points last Saturday (320 total), and it should ease my mind, but I don't think I will ever have enough points to where it wouldn't bother me...only because I will always think about the extra days I could go back at another time. We have 4 vacations planned for next year (Feb - 5 nights 2 bedroom, Sept - 7 nights (4 nights 2 bedroom, 3 night Disney Cruise) , Oct - 5 nights 1 bedroom, Dec - 6 nights 2 bedroom), and trying to work a 5th one in....of course at some point I will use the extra points, but I don't like it. LOL Dh and I are going in Oct for our anniversary (Oct 17 - 21) and that is 2 nights weekend rates...but when you average all 4 nights, it is a great deal! So yes, I have a hard time doing it, but I would prefer to rather than deal with moving etc.

We try to stretch our handfull (200) of points out. We rarely stay over Fri-Sat nites. We'll try to combine some state or National Park visit with our trip that will occur on those days.

Actually, it could be 5 extra days during the week. Generally the two weekend nights total the same amount as the 5 Sun.-Thu. nights. I would much rather get an extra 5 nights of vacation so we tend to move on the weekends as well.

With that said, if weekend falls during our trip.....we are using the points. No linking reservations, no waiting for a discount, no switching resorts.

We did discounted cash this past trip for all of our weekend nights. SO that was 4. We stayed at BCV for one weekend night and that would have cost us 75 points. This allowed us to go for 14 nights vs. 10. We did 3 cash nights at OKW. I am trying to figure out our trip for next summer. Again we want to stay at BCV and 8 nights just seems like a good number. I have several ways to make this happen....of course we would use 390 if they were all on pts. We would use 315 if we paid a cash night if available.This trip it was 457.50 plus tax. I could use even less pts. if we paid cash for both weekend nights. AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH I HATE TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT.

To save points, I'll often do try a different resort's studio for the weekend nights, then switch to OKW for the week.

But our upcoming trip we are having lots of company, so we're doing Saturday through the following Sunday in a 2 bedroom at OKW.

We only have 180 points, so far, so we usually don't do weekend nights at DVC resorts. I have done a Friday and Saturday night in an OVIR at VB after doing Sun-Thurs at BWV. That same trip we spent the first Saturday at Pop Century, I don't think we'll do that again. I'm still in the mode currently of doing multiple trips in a year going Sun-Thurs rather than one trip and using points for Fri and Sat. I may add points at some point and then change that philosophy.

One thing that may keep me doing the Sun-Thurs thing is that I photograph weddings and that leaves my Saturdays open.

For a while, we didn't use our points on Friday and Saturday nights, but booked a Moderate resort with an AP discount. Eventually, we got tired of having to switch resorts during our vacation, so we just bought more points (have 700 so far...)

I could only dream of 700....we only have 300.

Since we joined DVC all of our trips have been Sunday - Thursday too. We leave Houston Friday night between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. We drive straight there and arrive around 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. We stay off site to rest and get ready for the World. Check in to our resort the next morning.
We have 150 pts., so if we get more we might use them for the weekends or better yet, an extra trip.

We bought our points to use them. So we use them on high point nights as well as low points nights. I have a big enough bill to pay with dining and other charges to add a few cash nights in there as well.

And once we move in, we stay put until we leave. I'm not one for moving out over the weekend just to save points. Moving around is too much work and I hate being homeless on the day we check back in.

Wow I am Sooooooooo envious of all you people with lots of points I can only dream of having. We just bought 50 pts resale at OKW and to me it is great to have pts to stay sun to thurs in a studio. As for using pts for weekends well I clearly don't have enough so we are staying at a value this dec trip for fri and sat night but in the future we plan on making weekend nights offsite to do universal and seaworld. If we had the points I don't think I'd switch but adding on won't happen for us for many years. Good luck!

October 2009 will be the first time we will really run into this problem. November 2008 just me and my DH-using points for a studio(SSR & OKW)on the weekend. But with the Oct 2009trip, the kids will be with us. We are trying to decide if we should do Fri-Sat or Sat-Sat. Either way, the weekend nights we will most likely book a room at POR (hoping for a discount code). We only have 100points, we pay the bank and borrow game, but its what we can afford right now? ! Hoping someday to have enough points to stay right through !
