Do other parents really complain?

For those who are "pro uniform".

Take the uniform aspect out for a moment. Are "micro minis" appropriate for girls to wear during the school day? Why or why not?

You aren't going to see the difference so there isn't much point to me answering.

A girl wearing a micro mini may or may not have on appropriate undergarments to a make sure everything stays covered no matter how she sits or stands or gets up or bends over.

Well I see it as same situation and different rules. We can agree to disagree.

FWIW, My 2 sons are around so many cheerleaders because of my DD all Star, they don't think anything of those short skirts. They really aren't that flattering, they are mostly functional. Hard to do some of the stuff they do in longer loose skirts.

Lol, fair enough. :)

Ok, so you totally took what I said and went sarcastic with it. gotta love the Dis.

I said that I couldn't take the uniform out of it, but I still fell that cheerleaders should be allowed to wear them, they always did around here and no one had a problem with it, not until some uptight people got into the school system.

The other paragraph was addressing the fact that if they are so offensive and against school dress code, when why are they allowed at school sanctioned events and not in school. Now, I never said they did these things in class did I. NOPE, I was talking in that paragraph about events and competition and maybe that is why they are so short, but you go ahead with your cheerleader hate. I love it.

Oh, and mine isn't a school cheerleader but an AllStar cheerleader, so I don't have a dog in this fight, I am just not a jealous bitter person.
What cheerleader hate? Just because people think cheerleaders (in this case) aren't "above the rules" doesn't mean we "hate" them or are jealous.

And my question was very simple, you elected to avoid it... do you think micro-mini's are appropriate to wear in class (for anyone)? Why or why not?

So a girl should be able to wear a micro mini if she has appropriate undergarments on?

The school, not the girls, but the SCHOOL, approves the uniform. This isn't a girl going out and purchasing a skirt. These uniforms aren't cheap either and again, SCHOOL selects the uniform. If they have a problem with it, then don't select it. so yo make the team, you try on the SCHOOL approved uniform and purchase it, then you are told it doesn't align with school dress code.

So in answer to your question I think cheerleaders should be allowed to wear the school approved uniform on game days. The one that you purchased because the SCHOOL approve it for use.

Miley Cyrus had her undergarments on!!! :rotfl:

Since when are undergarments considered appropriate cover at school, ever.

Do CheerMoms who support their daughters wearing their micro mini's all day at school just truly not see the inappropriate... or are they really supporting their daughter flitting a round all day flashing their halfway covered body parts, when not engaging in an athletic activity that requires limited athletic type clothing...

Don't think we will get an honest answer back on that one!!!!

Hey, how about track... Lets let them wear their micro tanks and micro shorts...
Anyone noticed what track competitors are running in these days!!! Anyone see the Olympics.....

Hey, why not let swim team come to school in their speedos!!!!
The school obviously approved these too...
So, Yey Rahhhhh..... You made the team, you have a body that you assume everybody else is just SO jealous of... so Yey!!!! :cheer2:

I agree if the school thinks the uniform is "vulgar", it's vulgar everywhere (in class or out). However, my question has nothing to do with vulgarity, but appropriateness. And you avoided it again.

One last time... are micro-mini skirts appropriate for anyone to wear in class? Why or why not? luvsJack says they're fine as long as appropriate undergarments are worn.

if you don't want to answer, simply don't respond.

why is it ok for the gils to wear this and flit around all night at the game. If they don't they are in trouble. Double standard. Swim team don't go out and cheer on game days, it they did, then more power to them.

sorry but since when does showing leg constitute half covered bodies. Did you people not have cheerleaders in your school. Where is the outrage when they are flipping upside down of pulling stunts in a pyramid in front of everyone, their certainly shows way more body parts than walking to and from class. No one said anything about being jealous of a body, where in the world did you get that. UPTIGHT people, that is what I am seeing.

By all the sarcasm, I can say without a doubt, that is is all cheerleader hate or envy.

Ok so I will spell it out for you. I guess that is what I have to do. No,not for everyone, but the cheerleaders should. Double standard, YEP. Too flippin bad. These girls had to purchase these uniforms, they wear them during school sanctioned events, then they are good enough to wear to school on game day. Should these same girls be allowed to wear mini's of their own choosing on other days NOPE. But hey life isn't fair, DEAL WITH IT.

Did I answer your question? I will state my answer again. Cheerleaders should 100% be allowed to wear the uniform on game day, all other skirts not allowed.

If the school deems them inappropriate then they are inappropriate. Of course, in the situation we are discussing, the school says that the uniforms aren't inappropriate for school events, but likely that micro-minis are. In my opinion, if the uniforms are so offensive or vulgar or whatever, then the school needs to be changing the uniforms. Otherwise, I see absolutely nothing wrong with cheerleaders getting to wear their uniform on special occasions. I'm not saying that the girl can wake up one morning and just decide she feels like wearing her cheerleading uniform to school, but on game days, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I'm not sure that you are grasping the point that many are trying to make on here that there is a difference between a school-issued uniform that multiple students will be wearing on the same day and an outfit that a student just decided to purchase at the mall.

I think he is grasping it, he just wants to argue.

Gosh, I miss the 70s, when people were more sane about this stuff.

Yes, our cheerleaders wore their uniforms on game days. Yes, the football players wore their jerseys on game day. Yes, it increased school spirit, which was the whole idea.

No, I do get it. The point I've been trying to make is if it is "inappropriate" for a girl to wear a micro-mini to class, then (at least IMO), the design & color of the micro-mini doesn't change the appropriateness.

At least mhsjax finally admitted it was a double standard. Personally, I don't like double standards and think they should be avoided whenever possible.

I also understand the reason for the short skirts is for the range in motion the girls need while they're doing their stunts. That makes total sense. However, IMO, since they're not doing stunts during school time, that range of motion isn't needed.

And again, contrary to what some have claimed, it's not cheerleader "hate" to say they should be held to the same standards as other students.

I see the LOL and while I understand your point [that swimmers, wrestlers, and gymnasts don't wear their uniforms to school], I think a bit of common sense needs to come into play too, thus the reason I don't think that all things all the time are equal

I agree that what's appropriate for a sporting uniform and what's appropriate to wear at school aren't always the same and common sense needs to be used. However, it seems like the school already has guidelines for what is "appropriate at school" and they're outlined in the school dress code. I don't completely agree with everything in our dress code, but the rules are the rules and we follow it. The dress code seems like a reasonable place to draw the line for which uniforms are appropriate and which are not.

I was a middle school cheerleader. I did not enjoy it and did not try out again. (No cheer envy here. I did not want to be on the squad.) On game days, we had to wear our cheer tops over a turtleneck sweater with dress-code appropriate bottoms. Yes, sometimes it was hot -- and I DETEST turtlenecks. Yes, it looked somewhat silly, but the basketball players (boys and girls) had to do the same thing if they wanted to wear their jerseys. The football teams jerseys already met the dress code requirements so they didn't get fussed at. What everyone wore during school had to be within the dress code. That's not "equal" but it's fair.

The cheerleader earned her uniform. The honor society member earned that special tassle for his cap and gown at graduation. The first violin in tge orchestra earned that distiction. They should all be recognized. You can't make it "equal" for everyone.

The cheerleader earned the right to wear her uniform during cheerleading performances -- and she's recognized for it then. Just like the wrestling teams is recognized for theirs on the wrestling mat. I don't understand why some people think the cheerleaders are special. They really don't do anything more for school spirit than any other club or team.

I disagree with the article calling the cheerleading outfit "vulgar". I think there's a difference between "not appropriate for school" (which I think it is on the basis that "the dress code is the dress code") and vulgar. If they really think it's vulgar then they need to change the uniform.

I'm not sure I really buy the argument that the skirt *needs* to be that short/tight though. My niece does all-star cheer, and I've been to several of the competitions to support her. Many of the squads wear uniforms similar to the one pictured. And by the end of the routine, those skirts are bunched up around their waists or they keep tugging them down in the middle of the performance. (My DD dances and would be in big trouble for fussing with her costume in the middle of a performance.) There were a few squads that had short pleated skirts. They looked a little old-fashioned since the straight skirts are the current style -- but their skirts fell back down on their own. No tugging needed. I can see why you wouldn't want one that was so long it covered the girls arms/face when she tumbled, but IMHO that short, tight skirt does *not* help their athletic performance.

but we were all wearing skirts that length

Loved the 70's. There was a ton more common sense. I agree.

YOu are right on the tight fit of the uniform and so many of the girls like them really tight and they pucker,( does that make sense) And yep they do tug at them, and they can get a deduction for that. lol

We were talking the other night about how we missed those pleated skirts, they did flop back down, but i know that in my high school, they weren't much shorter if any than what they wear now.

I graduated in 1981 and in my middles school the skirts were almost as short as now. Maybe todays are a little bit shorter, but even by todays standards my schools uniform would come nowhere close to conforming to school dress code.

Scary. You quoted before it took out the smilies!

Ot slightly. All the rules that are based on "studies" to get better grades etc. are not making the schools better.

While I am in the camp of different clothes are appropriate for different activities, I also believe that boys are not going to stop fantasising about pretty young girls regardless if what you dress them in. To make the girls dress in accordance to their effect on boys is wrong.
