Anyone else not liking the new ticketing system?

The whole pay to hop and pay to not expire thing seems just plain uncool.

What I don't like about it is the whole biometric thing, making it impossible to interchange passes, even within families. Previously, every day, one parent would keep the 4 passes and just randomly hand them out at the gate before we went in. Now we have to keep track of whose pass is whose. Also, we used to come home with 4 passes with maybe a day or two left. Then, next trip, if it was a solo trip, just grab a pass and go. This whole idea of having to keep track of exactly which family member owns which pass is what irks me.

Huh? Pay to hop? Pay not to expire? We have TONS of "Pluses" left on our Park Hoppers we have purchased throughout the years. Some were bought in 2001. We have to pay for them not to expire? Please tell me this is wrong!

No, your old 'pluses' are fine. They will still be valid. It's only the new ticket media, that will be sold from Jan. 2 on that will be this way. You buy the days you need, then it is one park per day. If you wish, for an extra fee, you can have your days not expire or you can park hop. But both those options are just that, options. If you want those, you'll have to pay extra.

As far as keeping track of the tickets, does anyone know if the new tickets will have names on them, just as the AP does now? I haven't had any problem with keeping who's is who's straight.

Im not thrilled with the new passes. They definitely arent what we are looking for, for our next trip. With that said we went out the other night and bought 2, 5 day hopper passes before it was too late. ;)

I believe they are going to print the names on the passes like AP's. Otherwise, if the biometrics fail how could they ask for ID?

Yes, the names will all be on the tickets, just like the AP's.

The new tickets will take some getting used to, both for the guests and for the folks that work at WDW. This will be more difficult for the CM's too. Longer lines because guests really don't know what they want so it requires more intense explaining. For the 1st couple of months it won't be pretty. Of course, like when they changed the tickets from paper to the current form it was a shock, as it was when they went from individual tickets for each ride to "buy a ticket and it will be good for anything you want to ride", but it will get easier.

There is one bonus to this. If a particular ticket gets lost, you will only have to show the ID for the person the ticket belongs to so you can get it reprinted. No more holding on to receipts or copies of the backs of tickets for years.

Have a great holiday and just chalk it up to progress. :upsidedow

Personnally, I like them. I like the idea that it is only going to cost me a little over $2.00 more to have 7 days at the parks, instead of 5 days. I think it will make our next trip a little more relaxed and we will come and go from the parks more. Plus, the 7 day advance ticket price with park hopping is cheaper than a 5 day park hopper is. Works for me. :D

Also, the old tickets were not supposed to be transferable, so the fact that you will not be able to use someone elses tickets shouldn't be all that different. The kicker is, Disney has finally closed the loop hole and now can prevent the unexpired days from being sold or transferred and I think that is what people do not like about it.

This is where what seems like a good deal is hardly a good deal at all. If that was a 5+2 PHP, you paid approx. $52/day for it. The best advance price I have seen for a 5 day PH puts it at about $48.80/day. Those pluses are only good for PI, TL, and BB.

The 10 day premium MYW with advance purchase would have reduced the admission price to $37.70/day with pluses good at the regular 3 + DQ + WWOS. Two vacations paid for with $143 savings/person and 1 more plus.

I consider $143 to be worth the "hassle" of biometrics.

But, it will keep people from being ripped off at those ticket places along 192. There is nothing sadder than someone who has purchased tickets for their entire family from those places only to find they have tickets that are no good, and they are out $1500. Disney/ SeaWorld, Universal etc. isn't responsible for those losses, so the guest is Out of luck. Buyer Beware! Yes, it happens more than anyone knows! This will put those places out of business(where they belong) and in the long run will be better for everyone.

You were already paying for it.

It's just you had the "package" forced on you. Anyone who bought a 6 or 7 day park hopper paid for no expiry, plus options (want them or not), and park hopping - they just didn't break it down like that.

Now, you can choose.

I'll give you an example : right now, the ONLY way to get 6/7 day PH's is to buy the PHP. If your family doesn't use the "plus" options, you have no choice but to pay for them anyway.

The new system is MUCH more flexible. And prices didn't really go up - they just came way, way down for longer stays.

Finally, although SOME people need no expiry, the vast majority of people do not visit WDW while planning for their next trip at the same time; those people were paying a premium for tickets that they didn't need to pay.

If you really do the math, and evaluate your true need for no expiry or not, you just may see it's not as bad as you think. I'll give you an example - I'm helping a family plan a trip to WDW (four people) staying for 7 days. They ONLY want to visit the four major themeparks, and aren't going to be returning to WDW anytime soon to use more tickets (so they don't need the no expiry). Those people will not only save $100/ticket (for a total of $400), but they can afford a whole extra day at the parks for a lousy $2. No more "first day/last day" guilt over using a pass - it's so cheap to add a day or two at that level you can hit the parks from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave for less than it was costing before.

Choice is always better than no choice. Although some people won't find this as convenient as others, I do think for the majority of people this system will work out better.

N.E.D.

I totally agree. It will be difficult to comprehend from the beginning, but I think all in all, it will be much more user friendly!

Me, too!! We usually don't go to the parks on our arrival and departure days, though we have several hours. On our March trip, we are staying at CR and I was dreading my 4 year old pleas of going into the park. Now we can check in at noon and go to MK for lunch. Rock on!

I priced out the new tickets for DH for this coming trip (DS & I have APs) No matter how I figured it, we save money - even if we get no expiration. If we get him just what he needs for this trip, we save a ton. I love the new pass.
I agree that I would like to be able to use his unused days, but the benefits outweigh that small factor.

I didnt want any plusses. I only really needed 1 park hopper day for the next trip, but wanted to save the extra 4 days for another time. If I wanted it to be a hopper and never expire, with the new tickets it would have cost a lot more than what I paid. I ended up paying about $48.00 per day. With the new tickets it would have been about 50 something(I forget what I figured out). So for my needs, the old PH was definitely the better deal.
FWIW, I find no hassle with the biometrics. Ive had an AP and never minded sticking my hand in there. ;)

For people who go to the parks for 7 days in one trip, I think the new tickets are great. When I go though, I go usually go to the parks for 2 days, 3 at the most. These new tickets don't help me out at all. To get a decent deal, I'll have to buy a 7 day ticket, add park hopping, and add no expiration. That's a lot of money to shell out for tickets that will last me 3 trips. I typically buy a 4 day hopper and use that over 2 trips. I'm hoping that the discount ticket brokers continue to carry park hoppers (especially the 2 and 3 day versions that Disney doesn't sell to the public). Those really work great for me. Otherwise, we may not be going to WDW so often anymore. I have 2 days left on a hopper now. After I use them, that may be it.

Well, since I am an Annual Passholder, the new tickets do not bother me one bit. Though I can understand the having to pay to hop and no limit opitions, I do agree with Disney with making the biometric it adds to the security of their tickets as it only allows one person to use your tickets. I personally would rather have an annual pass, as it affords me the opition to go more then once, and the discount on the rooms cant be beat.

The new tickets look okay to me, however I have been unable to find the prices for the 10 tickets. I've seen them all the way to 7 days but that's where it ends, it then mentions that the 10 days will be available, can someone point me in the right direction?
thanks a bunch

Again what some people like about it is that you are not being forced to pay for the extras. If you don't want them you don't have to buy them, if you do want them then buy them. The point is that before you had no choice. Even if you didn't want them or use them you had no choice but to pay for them. Get it? What if a car with a tow package cost $10,000. Then the company made the tow package optional (for a $1000) and reduced the cost of the car to $9000. It would work out great for some people who would never use it, but other would complain that they had to now "pay" for the tow package.

And as I have said before I think this is going to work out awesome for some people who go a lot and have a couple of hopper days left over (or want to buy some real quick) Buy a 10 day no hop, non-expire ticket (the cheapest per day WDW ticket I've seen in a long time- with the exception of the 10 day no hop, expiring one of course) and use them over time for your non-hopping days and use the hoppers for a hopping day or two per trip.

Interesting reading on this thread. We'll be at WDW 5 weeks starting 27 Dec. Very much wondering what check-in lines will be like at WDW properties; lines at box-offices. Everyone on this dis is up-to-speed -- but we have to be in the vast minority. Can't imagine explaining all of this at check-in/box-office. It's always been complex, but the new deal is to-the-extreme in complexity. I know it sounds simple, but go ahead & try & explain it to someone who has never been to WDW. Entertaining moments to say the least! Who's on first?
