Do not like the new ticket system!

For people who go to the parks for 7 days in one trip, I think the new tickets are great. When I go though, I go usually go to the parks for 2 days, 3 at the most. These new tickets don't help me out at all. To get a decent deal, I'll have to buy a 7 day ticket, add park hopping, and add no expiration. That's a lot of money to shell out for tickets that will last me 3 trips. I typically buy a 4 day hopper and use that over 2 trips. I'm hoping that the discount ticket brokers continue to carry park hoppers (especially the 2 and 3 day versions that Disney doesn't sell to the public). Those really work great for me. Otherwise, we may not be going to WDW so often anymore. I have 2 days left on a hopper now. After I use them, that may be it.

The discount brokers will only have what is in their current stock after the 2nd of the year. After that, Disney will completely discontinue all the other tickets. Just like they won't be available for you to purchase, nor will the brokers be able to purchase them.

A 3 day hopper from the brokers typically cost about $175. So - for 6 days of hopping, you'd be paying $350.

With Magic Your Way, you can purchase a 7 day, non-expiring, park hopper and you'll be getting 7 days of park hopping for just under $300. (The total is $296 and some change)

Yes you'll have to put more money out up front, but the Magic Your Way is more admission for less money.

Yes, the names will all be on the tickets, just like the AP's.

The new tickets will take some getting used to, both for the guests and for the folks that work at WDW. This will be more difficult for the CM's too. Longer lines because guests really don't know what they want so it requires more intense explaining. For the 1st couple of months it won't be pretty. Of course, like when they changed the tickets from paper to the current form it was a shock, as it was when they went from individual tickets for each ride to "buy a ticket and it will be good for anything you want to ride", but it will get easier.

There is one bonus to this. If a particular ticket gets lost, you will only have to show the ID for the person the ticket belongs to so you can get it reprinted. No more holding on to receipts or copies of the backs of tickets for years.

Have a great holiday and just chalk it up to progress. :upsidedow

So, I'll have to bring the kids' birth certificates with now? Except for my dd who is in high school (who has her high school ID), none of the other children have any type of ID's!!! And the birth certificates don't have pictures on them, so I guess that wouldn't work, either. Hmmm...Disney would have to give out receipts.

I don't think it will be that bad explaining it to newbies. It's a very simple series of questions:

How many days do you want to visit the parks?

Will you want to visit the water parks/PI/DQ?

Will you want to visit more than one park on a single day?

Do you think there is a chance that you may not use all the days you purchase on this trip, and beleive you could use that un-used day on a future trip?

Four questions that will determine the type of ticket a person needs to purchase isn't too bad! If the person changes their mind after the fact, well, not much anyone can do about that!

thank God I have an annual pass...the new tickets seem so difficult all the charges and extras to pay for tat i think should already be included.its just annoying

I am so confused, please help me. We are going in May and need a 4 day park hopper. With this new system, how much more will I be paying for my tickets? I will be buying 4 tickets for my family. If the price is that much more with this new system, could I buy my 4 day hoppers before Jan. and then just use those ones in May? Thanks everyone !!!

I've done APs in the past to get 2 trips "for the price of one" but the 10 day non expire ticket works out better for me because now I don't have to take the trips in consecutive years. I can go when I want. It worked out great for us last time. We went in Feb 03 and Jan 04, but with MYW we could go for 2 five day trips for "cheap" like before but we could go every other year or every 3rd year to stretch the dollar even further.

And as I have said before I think this is going to work out awesome for some people who go a lot and have a couple of hopper days left over (or want to buy some real quick) Buy a 10 day no hop, non-expire ticket (the cheapest per day WDW ticket I've seen in a long time- with the exception of the 10 day no hop, expiring one of course) and use them over time for your non-hopping days and use the hoppers for a hopping day or two per trip.

I agree! :) If thats what someone needs, they can be a great deal. However if you want to hop and not expire, and dont want a lot of days, then it can be a bad deal compared to the current PHs. I think it all really depends on what a person is looking for whether its good or bad.
Ill be glad to be going back to an AP in 2006 though...much less confusing. ;)

Chicago, I agree its an easy series of questions....its a matter of the guests who are unfamiliar with all of this coming up with answers, LOL. ;)

Here is my take on it.

If you take periodic trips of five days or less, the most cost-effective means of visiting the parks is to buy a 10-day non-expiring hopper. The per day cost of that option is $35.36. The cost of the ticket is $353 and change, only a few tens of dollars more than the old 7-day PHP (which was the most cost-effective "short but periodic trip" ticket under the old system) but carries three extra days. (If you used plus options, the new ticket isn't quite as good of a deal, but it is still less per visit.)

If you are taking a trip of six days or more (whether or not you plan to come back) it is cheaper per day to get an expiring ticket that covers your length of stay.

The new ticket plan only really sticks it to you if you are going for a once-in-a-lifetime trip of five days or less. Which is exactly what Disney is after: longer and/or more frequent visits.

I love the new ticket system. We don't have a trip plan again until 2006 but I am watching with great interest on how this all pans out.

We do not go to any of the water parks or PI so we don't need the pluses. We rarely "hop" either so we will have to decide if hopping is something we really need to pay or not.
We also don't need the expiration so there we save some more.

The new tickets would work great for our family

Mousesavers has a list of the tickets and option prices here

http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwticketprices.html#myw

Disney will honor any existing tickets so if the current 4 PH saves you money then you should go ahead and buy them.

OK I see they have tickets for 1-7 days and then it jumps to 10 days. We are going for 9 days. Will I be able to buy a ticket for 9 days for my family or will I have to buy a 10 day ticket and then pay extra for it to not expire?

We are DVC and just got a great 100.00 discount on an AP. We won't need a ticket for anything more than just our one trip next year so we are trying to figure out which would make more financial sense for us.

A current 4 day PH is 215.13(including tax)

If Im doing this right, with the new tickets, if you want 4 hopper days it would be 220.00(185.00 for the ticket+ 35.00 to hop) If you want the days to not expire it would be another 15.00. I dont believe those prices include tax.

So while it wouldnt be a lot of money, buying park hoppers at your local Disney Store now, would save you a bit.

I haven't see a price for an 8 or a 9 day ticket either so we won't know if they are offered until after Jan. 2.

$100 for an AP is probably the best deal since that is half the price of a 10 day MYW ticket with hopping.

Even if you decide to go with the MYW pass I wouldn't add the no-expire option since it is $100 on a 10 day pass. That would mean you would be spending $100 to save less than $20.

If you really do the math, and evaluate your true need for no expiry or not, you just may see it's not as bad as you think. I'll give you an example - I'm helping a family plan a trip to WDW (four people) staying for 7 days. They ONLY want to visit the four major themeparks, and aren't going to be returning to WDW anytime soon to use more tickets (so they don't need the no expiry). Those people will not only save $100/ticket (for a total of $400), but they can afford a whole extra day at the parks for a lousy $2. No more "first day/last day" guilt over using a pass - it's so cheap to add a day or two at that level you can hit the parks from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave for less than it was costing before.
N.E.D.

That is exactly why I love the new system! For our trip in May, we were going to arrive late Saturday afternoon, spend the evening at DTD, and use a 6 day PHP for the parks on Sunday through Friday, for a total cost of $859.52(2 adults and 1 child). To buy a 7 day park hopper, so we could go on Saturday night, would cost us $942.58. With the new system, 6 day base tickets with Park Hopper option will be $669.89, and for a mere $3 more, we can get 7 day tickets with PH option! That's a savings of $269.50!!! We would only use the plus option for my DH and I to get into PI one evening, so we have all those plusses left over on our old tickets that we can use. I think it's great that we can save so much money, and also that we can head straight to the parks on our first evening there for only $3, and we won't feel like we've "wasted" a day of our tickets.

If all you want are 4 or 5 day park hopper passes, you will be paying more ($31 and $25, respectively) for the MYW tickets. The savings come into play when you add more days.

What I don't like about it is the whole biometric thing, making it impossible to interchange passes, even within families. Previously, every day, one parent would keep the 4 passes and just randomly hand them out at the gate before we went in. Now we have to keep track of whose pass is whose. Also, we used to come home with 4 passes with maybe a day or two left. Then, next trip, if it was a solo trip, just grab a pass and go. This whole idea of having to keep track of exactly which family member owns which pass is what irks me.

Simba's mom-

I never thought of that aspect. So are so right, that definately makes this system a pain. Is there an official place to complain :worried: Maybe, if enough people complain about that aspect of this new system, Disney can come up with another way of tracking the passes.

Tickets are nontransferable... always have been, Disney is just makeing this a reality now, so you can't take little Billy's ticket for yourself next year... it was not yours...Everyones names will print out on the tickets so there is no worry about keeping track of who's is who's, just take the one with your name on it. Also they will only ask for ID if you are over 18 years old... You don't need to bring birth certificates...

As for the value, the ticket value comes into play when you are buying more days. For example if you buy a 7 day MYW ticket with park hopping and no expiration you are getting 7 days park hopping, 5 plus visits (Disney Quest, Typhoon, Blizzard, PI or Wide World of Sports) with no expiration for technically $47 dollars a day if you figure it as 7 days (beats the current 1 day no hopping price of $58.31)... but you also get the Plus visits... so if you figure them into the division... you are paying $28.16 plus tax per day of your visit whether it is a theme park or a plus visit, since you technically have 12 days of places to go... doesn't seem like a bad deal to me...

As for the 10 day ticket question... The base is $208, hopping $35 and no expiration $100. For 10 park hopping days, 5 plus visits and no expiration you are technically paying $22.86 per day (if you figure it as 15 days) or $34.30 if you figure it as 10 days (plus tax)...

Im not thrilled with the new passes. They definitely arent what we are looking for, for our next trip. With that said we went out the other night and bought 2, 5 day hopper passes before it was too late. ;)

I don't understand? You can go for 7 days with the hopper add-on for only like $4 more than the cost of a 5-day Park Hopper.
Why would you feel like you are getting the better deal with your 5-day hopper by spending just a few dollars less. Just curious. I just want to know if I am missing something.
