X-Ray every bag going into the hotel.

Thats gonna be a big problem doing that. The Poly is accessible from the parking lot to every longhouse on multiple paths. Can't be done sans a guard every few feet 24/7 telling you no go in front door...Can you imagine having to go through security every time you come and go from the Poly or else where? Nah. And what about the cars and parking lots at the various hotels, many where you can park right next to your room. Nightmare.
What a forum that will make![/QUOTE]

They do it in Disneyland Paris.
Obviously the outside rooms are not designed with security in mind. Hence anyone can walk up to your room.

You keep your bag of toys in your car. Wait in your room for the “security check”. Then walk out to your car and get your bag of guns. What exactly have you achieved?

I wish I had a time machine. I want to go back to better days. This is making me sad.

This is one of the comments on Inside the Magic's FB post from earlier this evening. From the sounds of this, it doesn't appear to be your average mousekeeper who is doing the room checks during their regular rounds. (Yes, I know this is just one anecdote that may or may not be the norm.)

I didn’t read all of this thread (read the first few pages before we left). We are at poly now. We Have the new door sign (“off to neverland”). I was worried about being interrupted during a kids nap (1:30-3:30ish). I always request housekeeping come before 1pm.

drumroll... we have used the sign while the kids nap (and at night). We have not had anyone knock on the door while we have used the sign.

Anyway, just my non exciting report. Nothing seems any different than it had been on previous trips.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully other guests will report back with similar experiences.

We have several more days, so if anything changes, I’ll update. I was worried about naps, but so far so good. My kids are only Disney nappers at this point, but boy do they need those naps when we are here (sometimes me too).

Disney has a good bit of bags from Magical Express and then anything arriving by car needs to get X-Rayed. Case closed. For the sake of security, I would rather have that than having someone in my room every day.

Checking stuff arriving by car would be a logistical nightmare. They could never check every car unless they stopped allowing you to visit resorts to eat or resort hop.

Don't see how that is possible without 24/7 vehicle checks and guards in parking lots 24/7 stoping every single quest with a bag/ nap sac etc, coming from all directions....Have you been in the Poly parking lot? Its huge... Saratoga springs? Impractical..logistically impossible at 30 resorts where cars and lots are vast and spread out... They would have to stop each and every vehicle entering each resort and search each trunk....and escort each person to the X-ray machine. Not gonna happen.

This is key. Disney is one of those that think they can do whatever they want and get away with it. With other hotels, if they offend or disappoint their guests - you stay somewhere else right down the street. Disney is unique and in many ways has no competition.

NO one should let an "employee" enter their room unless they call them. Like I've said, I've seen with my eyes two men trying to break into POP rooms by knocking, jiggling handle and pushing ... then moving to next door. Once they realized I saw them, took their picture they ran off to their car. No way I am opening my door to someone who just wants to come in and look. If my room is paid, I am quiet, I don't need housekeeping and didn't call for maintenance .... there is zero reason for me to remove the latch and open that door.
Agreed & instead of ppl being angry & doing something about it like canceling trips or staying somewhere else, ppl say it must be something we need & assume their must be a credible threat &/or this must be a necessary intrusion, when it’s actually most likely just a CYA. And we just keep tolerating more & more & paying more & more for it.

Some say checking 30k hotel rooms every day will also be a logistical nightmare. If you want effective security instead of the theater then do the job correctly. Unless every room is searched top to bottom then weapons can get missed and basically it is a complete waste of time, effort, and guest inconvenience. On par for security at Disney. Just checking boxes.

Ok lets suppose they stop every car and every person going to every resort, on foot on a bus, in a car, in the parking lot, in a taxi....and open the trunk and the interior and have all bags collected and brought to multiple X-ray machines in every location in every hotel and restaurant and water park and shopping mall etc....(nice way to start your holiday)...then you go to the TTC or the boat or the monorail and get your bags and pockets scanned and X-ray...then you go for lunch at the Contemporary and the go thru a bag search and X-ray again then go to the TCC to go to epcot and when you get there you go tru a bag search and X-ray...and then you go back to your hotel and have your bag searched....sounds like a real blast! Cant wait...to feel the magic!

This is the Four Seasons Resort at Walt Disney World. It is next to Fort Wilderness. Best food, service and amenities you will find on property. And rest assured they will let you notify the front desk to DO NOT DISTURB you period. If that is your wish. They are a class act. They have a highly professional internal security system in place and they know who their guests are and don't need to play the phony security theater BS that Disney is rolling out. They are owned and opperated by Four Seasons International and not Disney although they share most of the benefits from a Disney Hotel. At the end of the day for what you pay during peak season at The Grand Floridian or The Poly you might as well plunk your cash down there. Or just go to eat and drink. You will be treated like a king either way.

Great pictures!

I don't think this new policy will be too intrusive if they handle it properly. Most people want housekeeping. If there are people that don't, a quick check during the day won't hurt anybody. When people don't want somebody in the room, they don't want them to touch anything. A look won't do that. Most people aren't in the room during the day, if they are a knock is fine. I would object to anything that would interfere with a child's sleep or anything late at night.

Then why have the room check? Can we all agree it is like watching the sky for asteroids?

That’s what I hope. We always get housekeeping but don’t leave the room until about 10. Usually they’re in the hallway when we leave. I’m concerned that they will just knock on doors in order rather than doing with the ones without DND as they do now.

I have also seen housekeeping in the halls early but I would think they are taking care of rooms where people have already checked out. Check out time is 11am. I don't think they would enter before that.

Although to be fair, humanity does exactly that. There is zero value in me doing this, but very valuable to have the right people doing it in the long run.

I don't know where it's coming from that the check will not be done by housekeeping. It will be done by housekeeping in most instances, since in general the housekeeping personnel will be entering rooms daily. It will need to be done by someone else if there is something preventing housekeeping from entering.

Because according to guests staying at Disney now in the hotels affected they have met their security steward and he told them that is all he does.

Maybe it's not quite to that extreme, but your post does remind me of a day on my trip last month when we went through security at the TTC, again to ride monorail to meal at Contemporary, again to go back to MK, etc., and it ended up being a total of five times in one day through bag check and metal detectors. As you say, not so relaxing to spend that much of your day going through security. I'm glad they are so concerned with safety, but wish there were some way to be effective without the same guests having to go through so many security checks in one day.
