--just because you think it will be too much wine. True you get 5 glasses, but they are just 2 oz pours. Which is just a tad over what you get with ONE large glass at most local restaurants. IF the quality of wine, etc is worth the extra $$$ is another question, but truly it is not too much wine.

They must pour heavy where you live.

We did the champagne pairing on our last sailing on the fantasy and I enjoyed trying the high end champagnes but I’m just not a lover of alcohol to spend $140 on myself. My husband got it and it was more than enough share so we could taste it paired with each course. The Krug was better than the Dom Perignon which was surprising to us, but the sommelier said it’s all about the marketing with Dom.

Been a long time since I bought Dom Perignon. So long ago it was selling for $33 a bottle!

100% true IMHO

In many Pennsylvania and Balto area restaurants, you can choose between a 6 oz and 9 oz pour - restaurants like Outback, for example, as well as non-chain restaurants.
I think 5 ounces is the standard here in a restaurant, 1 ounce wine tasting. 5 ounces seems to be what sources on Google show.

Here in Pa. it's either a 6 or 9 oz pour as Kindle Addict says. That's in almost every restaurant, including the chains.

Funny story: the first time we ever dined at Remy we misunderstood our server when she offered the champagne pairings. We thought that $140 was just up from the regular dining price, so we BOTH decided to do it.

Check comes, we realize we've basically blown our whole budget on the first night at dinner. Ugh.

Couldn't agree more. The Dom I had was a one and done. You're paying for the name not the terrible Champagne 🤣

For a tasting menu pairing? 6oz is a standard pour for wine by the glass but every tasting menu pairing I have ever had has a 1-3 oz pour with each course (depending on the number of courses).

Remy has 5 courses so if they gave you 6 oz pours with each course that would be more than a full bottle of wine PER PERSON in the course of a couple hours. Pretty sure that meets the definition of binge drinking and would not be pretty. Plus with the high end drinks they offered would cost a lot more than $140.

Of course, I am speaking about standard pours. If I understood the OP correctly, he was trying to encourage people to try the tastings at Remy's by telling them they would NOT get intoxicated since the overall amount is not much more than a standard 9 oz pour they might get at Outback, for example. No one expects that any restaurant would be wise to provide 6oz pours (let alone 9 oz pours) with each course for a tasting. Good golly - they would have to pick us all up off the floors! (grin)

NOt for a pairing--just one glass.

Ehh, "terrible" is probably over-stating it a bit. Both Dom and Krug are excellent champagnes, but they're pretty different--Dom is light and dry, but is so light that the flavor will disappear almost entirely if you pair it with anything at all. Krug stands up to food much better and is especially good with seafood. I tend to prefer Krug too, but it's not because Dom is objectively bad. Having said that, I'm not super picky--just give me a bottle of Veuve Yellow Label with almost anything and I'm pretty happy.
