While I understand that in many places on these boards, and in life in general, politics and religion are always hot topics, I do not agree with the decision to lock the thread I had posted about gay marriage. Gay marriage is a political issue and unfortunately it's also a religious issue(because people make it so). This is the LGBT board. Generally if people don't agree with us, they stay out of "our" boards. Although people are always welcomed and we have had people with opposing view points, I have only ever seen well balanced discussions. To not allow us on this board to talk about our right to marry because it falls under the realm of political and religious discussion is taking away one of the core issues that binds many of us together.

How are we supposed to share, hope, and look to the future of the LGBT community rights when we can't even post an article about our progress or discuss our own viewpoints on such an important and fundamental issue to our cause?

I understand it's "the few that ruined it for the many" but I still don't agree, Rather than sit and complain about it to myself, I figured I'd at least make my voice heard.

*hugs*
I just posted a similar topic on another thread before I got to read this one. I feel the same way. :guilty:

Didn't see this thread, just posted one as well...

Personally, I think this is a knee jerk reaction, punishing all for a few. Since being gay is such a politcally/religiously charged subject, I'm shocked they didn't just shut down the Gay and Lesbian forum. Sure they may say it was well thought out, but honestly, I do not think so.

Oh wait, I should be cautious because I'm being political, being an anarchist fighting a dictatorship.

I'm sure the general response will be, if you don't like it, leave.

:sad2:

Yes, that is what happens when places get so big. The DIS is huge, and a few members leaving won't matter at all.

At least it won't matter to the DIS at all. Sometimes people have to do what is right for themselves and not be overly concerned about the impact it may or may not make.

Being lesbian and gay is a political and religious issue. This country makes it so. Much of what affects our daily lives comes from both of those spectrums.

I'm not sure how it will go here, no one really is I guess.

Perhaps this board should be should down. :confused3 No sense in having something that is going to by it's very definition fly in the face of the new policy. :confused3

I missed the drama over the weekend. I don't agree with the decision, I think the problem could have been solved with a couple of well placed bannings or warnings, since it seemed to me that the same people were causing the problems.

Anyway, I don't think I'll be spending much time on this board now. What made it interesting for me was to be able to talk to people who weren't like minded. I'm not going to learn anything if I'm only talking with people who share my opinions.

There is a board that is concerned with gay rights issues. It's called jointheimpact. You can sign up there and learn about events in our local area (and other areas of the country) that have to do with promoting gay rights.

Trust me. Not all people who post there are of the same mind set! :scared:

I think a search of the above phrase should bring it up for you in google.

Boy, I leave for a couple of days and all hell breaks loose. :)

I have to agree that I disagree with their new policy. I'm sure the Mod's are going to have a tough job on their hands, figuring out what to allow and not allow. I don't envy them. Love them, but don't envy them. :)

That being said, I've always been the type of person that when it comes to discussions like these, I TRY of keep my opinions to myself. Sometimes that's easier said then done. Certain topics such as HIV/AIDS, I can't help myself for putting in my two cents. I remember days of sitting around with friends in a bar or around the dinner table and certain discussions came up and I would just sit there and listen. I find myself getting more and more this way, the older I get.

We all have very specific and opinionated views. Some are more passionate then others. But because of our passionate views and throwing in some good ol' fashioned stubborness in as well (not that I'M stubborn :rolleyes1), heated debates can cause for some harmful things being said, feelings being hurt, personal attacks and almost a lynch mob type reaction to someones opinion. I hate an atmosphere where you feel as if you have to walk on eggshells at everything you post.

I'm from the mentality to agree to disagree on many things, and then let it go.

It's why I mainly stick to the threads dealing with Disney, shoes :rotfl:, pet stories, trip reports with photos, etc. You get the idea. It's still sad that we'll have to be careful even more about what we say around here.

The funny thing, is that I find myself hanging out on the Disneyland thread just as much so I can talk about all things Disneyland related. I don't seem to get that as much here in the GLBT forum, so I go there for my fix and come here to hang out with family. :)

Anyone up for a heated debate about whether or not we should call it Soda, Pop or Coke?

Discuss....

Anyone up for a heated debate about whether or not we should call it Soda, Pop or Coke?

That's just it, heated discussions can occur over anything...it was chosen to go after two of them.

As for the nomenclature brought up, in Syracuse we call it Soda, in Rochester, you can find it both ways, and in Buffalo it becomes Pop. You can see the differences at grocery stores espicially, because stores that have outlets in each city have different signs for the specific aisles (with Rochester sometimes splitting the sign Soda/Pop).

I'm sure some people will leave, if for no other reason out of sheer boredom. Seriously, how many threads about people's wonderful offspring, their medical issues and their spouse problems can you really take? Well, for change of pace there's always the threads asking random strangers to make even the smallest of decisions for them, since they are apparently incapable of doing it on their own.

Pop what? What the heck is pop? That is what my cousin calls her grandfather.... Do you know anyone who calls their grandfather soda? :lmao:

SODA!

And they are worried about controversy over politics and religion, this is going to get uglier! :thumbsup2

You are so right! We take our POP drinking very seriously!!! Next you are going to tell me that its weird to put coleslaw and fries on your sandwich!:scared1:

As to not upset anyone wanting to discuss their issues with the new policy, I'm starting a new thread to discuss this heated debate about POP, SODA or COKE.

Be prepared for a battle. See you at the new thread.

To the OP, I owe you an apology. I meant to PM you last night about locking the thread and explain my reasoning as to why it was done, but I got distracted due to the DIS slowness issues, Corey calling me from TX, and animal issues and somewhere along the way, I lost the track of the need to PM you.

I am sorry that I didn't send you a PM about it. Honestly, the only reason that I closed the threads last night was to keep the peace. There are quite a few CB'ers that are angry and looking to target anyone and any board that they can. They are looking to pick a fight and in an effort to keep the peace, I made the decision to lock the threads to insure that they would have nothing to use as ammunition against our community.

I promise you and everyone else here, that as a member of the GLBT community, I have HUGE reservations about how this would affect us if it was strictly and consistantly enforced. However as a moderator, I know that Mike and I can help to keep the peace here since we typically do not have debates pop up on this forum. Right now, any socially based forum on the DIS is in the sights of the angry masses from the CB, but this too shall pass.

Hang in there guys. It's going to be fine in no time. :grouphug:

Now that I finally solved my login issues, i can respond.

After I read your post in the other thread, I understood better why you locked it. I can understand being proactive and keeping the targets off our backs. I did not take personal offense to it so no worries about the PM.

I still do not agree that we can't post an article or discuss what is going on in the country regarding our rights, but if I'm reading between the lines, we won't need to worry much after this all calms down. As Mike said, it's up to you guys to determine what is allowed at what isn't. So I won't take it personal when stuff gets locked.

You know, for the record, I have NEVER actually gone on the CB. I don't even know where they are. It sure does seem like they do nothing but cause trouble over there!
