do most people do this booking a full week??

Because of the high weekend point costs, many DVCers book Sunday to Friday morning. It's whatever you want. People say how easy it is to move, Disney transports the luggage for you, you go to a park or where ever you chose, and when you get to check in at the new resort, your bags will be delivered.

I'll be trying that system in September. I'm moving, SSR to AKV to BCV, not to save points, there are 3 weekend nights in my stay, but to try different resorts for the different things we want to do.

Bobbi:goodvibes

when we travel with the entire family we stay 1 - 2 full weeks. We are moving for an up-coming short notice anniversary trip. Not sure about the baggage move though as we are going from SSR to Dolphin and back to SSR. don't know if they will move bags to/from Dolphin???:confused3

You do not need to book two separate weeks. You can cancel days off your reservation without canceling the whole thing.

We also like to stay at 2 different DVC resorts each trip (we usually go for 2 weeks) so I, personally, think your plan sounds great!

Good to know. Thanks. Booked our stay and we're good to go. I'll try at the 7 month window for a week at whichever resort has availability. Since we got APS, no worries about tickets. :woohoo:

The hardest part would be keeping it a secret.;)

I book for the entire week. Bought the points to use them. Can't see staying off site or staying on cash now.

Oh we use all of ours too! Every single one of them! But by staying at a value, the beach or Universal on the weekend nights our points go twice as far. The points cost for Fri & Sat is, roughly, the same as it is for Sun-Thu so for each weekend we don't stay on points we get another Sun-Thu night stay!

We have used our points on weekends, on occasion, but generally take the opportunity to try somewhere else on those nights.

We've only had one DVC trip, but we stayed at the Poly for three nights and then moved to BWV for 6 nights. We did this to save points, but also to change our location. We like to stay a few nights at a MK resort and then move to Epcot for the rest of the stay. We have been doing this for years, before we owned DVC.

This Christmas we are staying at VWL on Friday and Saturday (1 night points, 1 night cash 1-bedroom linked reservation) and then moving to AKV for 5 nights. Next summer, we will do the same thing (maybe BCV and AKV).

We don't unpack if we stay in a room 2-3 days and the short stay is always at the beginning of the trip. Bell services moves our luggage for us. It's really not that much of a hassle. Since we really enjoy being right next to MK for a few days, it's really worth it to us.

I wouldn't move out of a room if my short stay was at the end of the trip. That's just too much trouble. Then I would have to pack up everything to move.

In your situation. I would probably stay in one place, unless you want to see different resorts (like we do). We make it more about our location, not about saving points.

Waiting for BLT, so we don't have to pay cash for MK monorail anymore. :cloud9:

We move alot. We own at 3 resorts. We like visiting multiple experiences during a trip. BWV has the view, BCV has stormalong bay and a spa day and OKW has the relaxation factor. As for the resorts we don't own at, we'll spend a night or two tacked on to the end of a longer stay so that's only 1 move.
This Dec is 11 nights in 3 resorts, which means 2 moves. It's seamless except for packing but we pack overnight bags for the 1 or 2 night stays then unpack the big luggage when we settle into the long stay.
We never worry about booking weekend nights. When we invite a large group, as in my signature photo, that's alway a Sun-Thurs but we'll come in a few days earlier or stay a little longer then the group.

It all depends on what you want, but my take is that the weekend nights aren't at a (significiant) discount, but weekday nights are. For example, an OKW 2BR costs 73 pts in peak season, and the rack rate of that room is $790+tax. If you value your points at $10 per, your still a tad less than paying cash, unless a nice AP discount comes out. (In 2008, Peak Season weekends were not discounted for AP holders, but weekdays were.)

IF the OP is a DVC member then she can possibly get the DVC cash discount.
