Around here it seems most of the kids still get HS class rings (sophomore or junior years) and the ones involved in sports and activities get the letter jackets. DS has a JrHS class ring that he got when he finished 6th grade. It was his idea and was willing to pay for half so we bought the other half for his birthday that year. It was close to $100 after taxes. It is actually just like a HS class ring, made by Artcarved. He is probably the only JrHS kid with one at his school, but that is okay. There are some kids in nearby towns that have ordered the JrHS rings according to the jewelry store we went to for DS's ring.
As for me, I had one that I got early in my junior year. I wore it through HS and for 3 years afterward while I was in college. It now sits as a dust collector in my jewelry box.
