Do I physically HAVE to check out of the resort??

Hi everyone!

This is kind of a stupid question, but I really don't know the answer I'm assuming someone here will! My DH and I are staying at AOA for one night, then moving to POR for the rest of our trip. We have a free dining package at POR so we will be picking up our park tickets early. The morning we will check out of AOA, I want to get to MK rope drop, and MK opens at 8. So, if we are not charging anything with our KTTW cards, and have no balance to pay, do we have to actually go to the lobby and check out of AOA or can we just leave? Is there a way to do it on the phone? Not having to check out would save us a few minutes of what will be a very busy morning!

Thank you! :)

No need to do anything if you have no additional charges or even if you have charges but have left a credit card on file to pay, unelss there is something wrong with your bill. They should leave your invoice under the door in the middle of the night and if it all checks out you can just leave without doing anything else.

my grandmother used to tell me-no such thing as a stupid question-only stupid answers :rotfl::rotfl:

op-i know exactly what you mean,we don't have a cc attached to our room/cards-so we never have a bill and yet i still feel we need to "physically check out"-
doesn't usually take too long-and i'm reassured no one has tried to sneak any charges to us!

we generally get some funny looks as we always have credits left on dining plan-then it's "you're all set" and off we go. :goodvibes

We do lots of split stays and we often move over to our new resort early in the morning and before rope drop! We have a credit card on file, so we're not required to check out. But I always stop by the front desk on the way out to let them know we're leaving. That way, when housekeeping starts, they know that we're out of our room and can get it ready for the next guest. It just takes a minute, and I like to think of the person checking in early and finding out that their room is ready!! :)

They are now sending your receipt by email. I prefer getting the hard copy but you can request how you want it :)

You know, when we did a short stay at ASMo in March, I assumed we did NOT need to actually check out (especially since the housekeeper practically ran us out of our room at exactly 11am, so she knew we were gone).

A couple of hours later I decided to stop by the desk just to make sure we were all set, and the CM seemed very annoyed that I was checking out "late". I tried to explain that I didn't think I needed to do anything, since we were out of the room by 11, but he just kind of sighed and shook his head. So, now I'm less confident. I guess next time I'll be sure to officially "check out" on time, lol!

I agree that it's a pain though, when you're in a hurry to get to a park.

Thanks! I guess I'll just check out on our way out, it's not like it's really going to waste that much time, so early in the morning, but I just wish you could call and do it over the phone or something! :)

I can't remember the last time officially I checked out of a hotel, LOL! Bill under the door and we're outta there! :)

They actually charge the night before (which I discovered when I went to the desk at 6am to change the billing method...something easy to do that morning at Disneyland and I was rather surprised to find out it's not possible that "late" at WDW).

I have never checked out of a WDW resort. Not even once. There's a number you can call, as I recall, to let Housekeeping know you're gone, but we never even called that number (so rude of us!) (actually, while I remember this NOW, for some reason we never remember while there...also, housekeeping is usually trolling around anyway, so they see us).

Haven't had a problem yet!

Me neither. :) Disney or other hotels, it's been many a year since I checked out of a hotel. I don't think I've ever checked out of a Disney resort. Maybe back in the 80's, but not in the last 10-15 years, for sure.

At POR/POFQ we usually have a folio on our outside door handle the morning of checkout. We look it over, and if it's OK, we just leave. There may be some last minute charges to come later, like a late purchase at the gift shop the night before, etc., but you should receive a final receipt, I think sent by email.

If you were concerned about your charges, go to the lobby in the evening before check-out and get a statement. Your charges might not be complete, but will be mostly complete (again, last minute purchases/food).

I wanted to make sure you understand about early ticket pick-up. You can pick up your tickets one-to-three days before your package, which would include the date of your AoA stay. But you can't pick up your tickets early on package check-in day except in person at POR.

Huh, good to know! We'll only be there one night, so maybe when I'm checking in, I'll just tell them that we want to be out of here early tomorrow and won't be charging anything, and make sure it's ok to skip the check out process! :thumbsup2 I've always checked out of the resorts because I assumed you had to!

Thank you! I did early ticket pick up last year, so I hope I know what I'm doing! :rotfl: I'm actually not even sure if I need to check into POR before we go to MK that morning, the only reason I would is because I'm hoping or room is ready early, but I doubt it will be ready at 7 am! And I might want my dining credits, which I won't have access to until I check in also. Ugh. This morning is going to be a pain, I can just tell! :rotfl2:

You never know, I've checked in to POR at 7:30 am and room was ready, and the Poly at 8 am and room was ready :cool1: As long as you aren't set on a particular room I'd say you have a good shot at getting lucky. We've never checked out of a Disney hotel - I would totally skip that part.

I travel a lot for business and spend 45 to 60 nights a year in hotels. On departure day, if there are no issues with the bill that was slid under my door, I'll drop by the front desk and hand in my key. I hand in the key so the hotel can reuse it. Also, I don't want to confuse it for the room key on my next stay and that brand of hotel.

A third of the the time, the clerk asks me for my room number and then checks me out. Most of the time they just thank me for handing in the key.

I understand at WDW, the key is personalized and therefore can't be reused. It is a souvenir. If the bill is good, I can't see any reason to visit the front desk on departure day.

I just wanted to add one thing that can happen. Since we have a CC on the room we don't physically check out either, but if you want to return to the resort that day as you are supposed to be able to, if they are restricting parking for whatever reason, they may not let you back in. They SHOULD, but the guard at the BC this past Sunday almost didn't let me back in. The deal for me was we left the room in the morning, out if our 2 BRV and then after the parks came back to check into another 2 BRV (couldn't get the same type 4 days in a row). You're always told you can use the facilities but this guard shook his head "no" when I said that. Then I told him it was irrelevant as I was checking in again anyway and he let me go.
