Do I need to make lunch ADR's??

Ok so I have posted on and on about ddp vs dxdp. One of my biggest sellers for the dxdp is that I will be going in September - during the free dining (had no idea about this free dining stuff when I booked).

Anyway...we are not using free dining so the dxdp is a big expense even for just the 2 of us. Since we are going at the free dining time, I was worried that CS places might be unbearable around lunch time. And as my breakfast and dinner times are dictaed by my will be 19 month old so is lunch time (12:00-1:00). I thought I would do dxdp so that we would have the option of ts lunches during this time.

Do I need to make the ADR's, or are the ts lunches during the free dining accomodating to walk-ups?

In a word, YES..

The sit-down restaurants are booked solid through most of the free dining perios.

Yes, you do. What will happen during free dining (or any other time) is that if dinner is full, people will start looking at late breakfasts (early lunches) or early dinners (late lunches).

And if I were you, I wouldn't want to be walking around with a cranky 19 month old and trying to find a place to eat.

During free dining I would.

When we have gone in October, we've made day of ADR's for TS lunch with no problems, but I wouldn't risk it.

I am a little confused...Is there a reason why you can't try to add free dining when it comes out to the general public on Thursday and just pay for adding on the deluxe?? That might cut some of the expense.

Even last June, when there was no free dining we noticed that people had problems getting into TS places for lunch.

Yes I got that wonderful 40% off code in the mail and booked WL. So I am saving about $185 using the 40% and adding the dining plan on.

We were there for free dining last year. At Columbia Harbour House and Pecos Bill's for a late lunch (2-3 pm) and we didn't have a long wait at all. Columbia Harbour House was empty.
Can't tell you about earlier though.
Overall, TS were CROWDED. Can't tell you how many people we saw turned away who didn't have an ADR.

I agree with the others, make the ADRs. I made mine last week and many were for the lunch hour this time. Last year we found the heavy meal at night was too much and the atmosphere less "happy". While I got all the places I wanted.......I didn't have as much flexibility in the time as I hoped. I can only imagine that they will all be booked in the next couple months.

I also felt the CS were really crowded at the obvious times and it was better to eat way off the norm. Dinner by 5:30 or after 7:30 (you do risk some CS are closing up already) and Lunch either early or late. All depending on what time our TS was that day.

OK I went ahead and made my lunch ADR's. Some days look ok...others look like alot of food! But based on my sons schedule now, we are 8am for breakfast between 12:00-12:30 for lunch and then between 5 and 6 for dinner. Although i did end up with a 6:20 and 6:40 for dinner...so I am hoping my ds will make it that long. I plan on trying to call back as we get closer to see if I can get that moved up a little...
