Other than their airline tickets, do I need to bring anything with me for them. We're flying Airtran.

Thanks

No id is required for anyone under the age of 18 years old. We fly all the time and never have a problem with our kids 9 & 15. I've called and asked lots because I'm afraid they will change the rules one day and am always told that they don't need anything. Now if you're flying with a lap child who is free then you need to bring their birth certificate to prove their age.

Good luck!

At the tender age of 9, DS has 8 round trip flights under his belt. I've never been asked for any type of ID for him. I always have a copy of his birth certificate with me, but have never been asked for it.

Most times, at the security checkpoint where the TSA agents check boarding passes, and IDs, they'll look at mine, look at DH's, and then ask DS what his name is. (to make sure he matches up with name on the ticket I suppose).

the only time you may need ID is for those under 2, if they're lap children or have a special discounted fare, etc.

I can relate. My youngest had to fly home from the hospital after he was born. Vacationing while pregnant can be exciting, sometimes ;)

If you're taking your child on a cruise, he does need a passport. It used to be that kids could go to Mexico and Canada without them, but no longer.

Nope.

Your kids will need to be visible to the agent when you check in, so don't send them off with another adult to kill time.

Bon voyage!

I concur with most of the above. Under 2 (if you don't pay the fare and have a "lap" child), you may or may not need proof of age. I've done it many times with my kids and have never been questioned. I've read of others who have.

Leaving the country, yes you will need a passport for your children.

Under 18, I'm not sure of. I would think that if they are old enough for a drivers license then they would be "carded", but that's personal opinion. I've never checked into it so 18 may very well be correct.

We flew Air Tran last year and didn't not ID for our kids, 3, 5, 7. Just picture ID's for my husband and I. Have fun - we're going in less than two weeks!

My dd is finally turning 18 soon, but we've done oodles of flights with her as a teenager. Even though she's often been mistaken for a college student I've never had the airlines ask her for ID. We homeschool and don't even have a school ID for her, but again, no problems.

Now that sounds like it could be an interesting story.
