If I end up with more checked bags than I have yellow DME tags for, I know they can track my bag via the baggage number given to me by the airline. But do I have to go to the DME counter to give them that info, or will the person by the bus queue take that info?

I know a few times in the past airlines have offered to check small carry on bags for free in order to have enough space on board the aircraft. I'm trying to figure out how things work if I am lucky enough to be offered that again.

I believe you must give your bag claim tickets to the CM checking you in for DME which would not be the one by the bus queue. You could also call DME and request additional tags just in case. I think 2 weeks is enough time to get the tags to you.

Yes - you will have to stop at the counter and give your claim check bags to the DME rep if you don't have the yellow tags on them.

Alternately you can call and ask for extra tags, tag all the bags you are definately checking and then keep an extra tag (or 2?) with you in case you get the opportunity to check your carryon for free due to limited overhead space. If your offered this just put the tag on your carryon and check it through!
