I'm a true ginger with the green eyes and freckles. My maternal grandparents are from Ireland (and both redheads) and somehow I was the only grandchild (out of 32) to be blessed with the red genes.
I get compliments all the time and wouldn't want to be anything other than a ginger. I sometimes think about coloring it brunette to try something different, by my DH always changes my mind. He said the first thing he noticed about me was my hair and it was an instant attraction.
DD9 was born a ginger but she is now more of an auburn. I do love her color though and am happy she inherited the gene.
I think it is because everyone is envious of our beautiful hair color, so they notice it.....they all wish they could be ginger, auburn, red-headed...or whatever you call it....
I personally notice a lot of heavy people at WDW every time I go. Are they having a secret convention also? Just kidding!
But, seriously, I have one daughter who has red hair and the other has blonde/brown. I often feel sorry for my non-red head because my little red head gets complimented SO MUCH and my other daughter basically gets ignored.
Being a red head myself, I know that there are sooo many perks to having red hair there is no way you would know unless you were one yourself. I once had a guy follow me through a town in Italy (he was just a normal guy from Philidelphia!) trying to get up the nerve to talk to me because he had a thing for red heads! I have met so many people and have gotten so much attention because of my hair!
Also, red heads go gray later in life. I'm in my 40's and NO GRAY!!! However, I dread the day the grays take over and I have to try to duplicate this color! I don't think it will be possible but I'll bring my little redhead with me to the salon so they can try!
I am a big red headed guy, which one do I attend first?
Also I am here in the world now yet have not seen but a couple of our kind. you can pick if I mean the heavy or the ginger!

My DD has ivory skin, no freckles and the color of her hair is beautiful red with silver streaks running thru it. I figured every one of my children would be gingers but only one out of 4 even though it runs thru all sides of the family (all 4 grandparents & DH). The boys all have dark hair and tan easily.
I really think gingers are concentrated in our town. Too many gingers to count in the school so they are all natural!
I am a proud ginger with fair skin, freckles and blue-green eyes! I was an adult before I truly loved my hair. Redheads have gotten a bad wrap for many years and I was teased badly as a child.
There have been several medical studies about the way red heads are affected by different types of pain as well as the effects of anesthesia. If you have a red headed child, I would encourage you to do some research. I always make sure my doctors are "red head" friendly, especially the anesthesiologists. Most of them have confirmed that red heads do require more meds during surgery.
I would LOVE to be part of ginger day at WDW or DL! How cool would that be!
