Do they change the rates at the DVC resorts? (Studio/ 1-2 Bedroom Daily and Weekly Rates) I know the maintence fees increase but I am trying to figure out how many points to purchase.

From what I understand they have only changed the points once and that was a long time ago at OKW to adjust for busy and slow times. I would not worry to much about this..... If they were to change the points they still have to keep the same number of points for a complete year. So if they decided a day in peak will now move from 10 points to 12 they would need to move a non peak day down 2 points --this is assuming there are only two periods and one point value on all days. DVC could move points around in any combination so long as the end number does not change.
Again it is not something you need to figure into your buying equation.

Points are fairly static throughout the year, except for spring break/Easter/Thanksgiving time. As new resorts come on, they could have a completely different point structure. Just make sure you get enough for your home resort, for your favorite time of year and for the lodging you need/want to stay in.

they say that the points charts are locked in. the only thing that changes is the dates, for example, easter is very busy, but easter is not on the same date every year. so easter is always the same number of points on the point chart, but the dates change.

My understanding is that points never change, but dates can be changed.

They reserve the right to shift points -- they can raise them at certain times of year but must also lower them in equal amounts other times of year so that total points for year remain the same; they could also shift points during the week by lowering weekend and raising weekday. They have done a shift among seasons only once many years ago at OKW. In 1999-2000, they considered a weekend to weekday shift but decided not to.
