Considering renting a car, but would prefer not to pay for resort parking.

I do know it costs to park at the parks.

Nor do you have to pay if you are a guest staying with someone staying on points (Wasn't sure what the question really was but that and the above covers all the bases.).

You aren't charged for parking at a theme park when staying at a Disney Resort (including DVC Resorts).

I thought I had read different. DOH

The points I am using are my BIL's.

It's more of a full time job to keep track of all the misinterpretations of the rules offered on these forums by some of the self-described experts.
I got a lot of help from this forum when I was researching DVC, I would not disparage people who try to be helpful even if sometime someone is wrong, it's often because rules changed. . Which should be testament about how difficult is to keep on top of things.

I’m not talking about the people who make honest attempts to be helpful, and base their advice on their own real-world experience. I’m talking about the handful of forum regulars who feel the need to express their opinions in numerous disparate threads, seemingly in an attempt to prove that their DVC acumen stands second to none.

There are literally dozens of threads that fall completely apart because those forum mavens, through their incessant need to argue and prove their opinion to be superior to others, drag the thread miles off topic and far away from the original poster’s question, rendering the thread useless to anyone hoping for viable information.

It only takes about 2 minutes to find the latest locked thread, or even a quick browse through the open ones, to find ample evidence of this. It’s not the result of honest mistakes blamed yet again on Disney, but the simple desire to prove how right they are, and how wrong everyone else is.

And I know it sounds like I’m doing the same thing (dragging the thread off topic), but I’ve said before that there should be a pinned “caveat emptor” thread at the top of the forum. It’s a problem that happens in every forum everywhere, but it seems much more egregious here and I’m just saying be careful.

Do you think you might be a little over sensitive to stuff like that?

I think most of us will move on rather than getting into an argument to the point of a locked thread.

And, some moderators will lock a thread to keep the info in an already existing thread, not because it was contentious.

My further observation is in life (and on forums) you take the good with the bad and sift out what is relevant for you. Lots of different personalities and age groupings here. Even in Moderator duties, you will see some that don't tolerate much and others that know when to step in, yet can allow a thread to develop with some off topic discussion.

If everything was cut and dried, a lot of knowledgeable people here might just find it too boring to hang around.

Not really. It's all water off my back, and I honestly don't care about most people's opinions. But, for someone new to DVC and the admittedly complicated nature of things, disparate and conflicting responses to a question really don't offer insight or education. And I was speaking specifically about those threads locked because they become too contentious, not because the info is already available elsewhere. They do exist, and they are not uncommon.

If you're asking about ways to utilize points, or the best way to stretch points, or opinions on use years or resorts, then every opinion has merit. But if the question is of a more cut-and-dried "Can I or can't I" or "What is the deadline or requirement to do this" nature, where improper advice can have real economic or other consequences, then people jumping in with their own interpretation of the rules serves no purpose.

There are literally two threads currently focusing on housekeeping security checks and the expectation of privacy, with more than the usual number of "I'm not a lawyer, but here's my legal opinion" posts. Granted, that's just an exercise in argumentation, but the topic could be, and often has been, about issues of greater and real importance regarding the purchase and utilization of points.

"Taking the good with the bad" is the very nature of the problem. You have been a member for 18 years, and enjoy the knowledge and experience to differentiate between the two. For someone who's been here 18 days, how do they know what's good or bad? That person doesn't have the benefit of experience.

I'm not suggesting that vigorous debate and disparate opinions are a bad thing, and I agree that they are the lifeblood of a healthy, interesting, entertaining, and educational forum environment. But, as a member of a number of online forums I find that this one can be more contentious than many, and the stakes can be higher if bad advice is proffered and followed.

To the OP, check your bill before you leave and make sure they did not add parking. Sometimes they make mistakes and it's much easier to correct while on site. Have a GREAT trip.

This is great advice. Sometimes the systems don’t talk well with each other and charges have appeared.

But a quick visit to the front desk gets them removed when they were charged in error!
