I have a question from my 10 year old son. Do dogs have umbilical cords and if so where are there belly buttons? I have never seen puppies being born but how else would they get nutrients from their mother in the womb? So any veterinarians or dog lovers that know the answer, my son would be grateful.

All mammals have "belly buttons" but they are not as obvious on animals as they are on humans. They are situated just above the pelvic area, just like on humans. You can "feel" for them on pets. It's fairly easy to find on a cat.

Thanks, DH took the dogs out but when he gets back my son plans on finding them. We have three, 65 pound dogs so this should be fun to watch.
