Do CityPasses bought from DL.com need to be used at DL first?

My wife and I bought a package for 1/21-1/26 from disneyland.com. Since she wants to go to Universal and SeaWorld, we got the CityPass in the package instead of the normal DL tickets. At least it looks like it still comes with the souvenir version of the 3-day DL ticket (according the the invoice from WDTC). Now, on to my question:

I thought I read somewhere that if you by the CityPass directly from DL, the first use has to be at DL itself. Does anyone know if that's really the case? We wanted to do the other places first and do DL later in the week since it would be both after Haunted Mansion re-opens and before the Jungle Cruise closes.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Well, what i would do is to hit DL first on 1/21.

yes, you will miss Haunted Mansion but thats about all you will miss. If you go after 1/21, you will miss Small World(1/22).

so what i would do is to hit DL on 1/21... Make sure you ride Small World, and come back after 1/25(Haunted Mansion return date)

Whew..finally able to post again (had account issues after the server move)

Anyway, neither of us would cry over missing Small World. Since the ticket has only three days of DLR and our flight gets into Long Beach around noon-ish, we'd rather not burn through one of those days on a partial. Since we are already planning on going on Friday-Saturday (9:45 PM flight Saturday), I may want to do Thursday to make it three straight. That is, if the tickets can be used at the other places first. Hence my question.

Thanks!

I don't know, but I felt bad for your post getting so little attention.

However, why do you think it has to be used first? I got the impression, while shopping around for packages, that a city pass is a city pass. You get the book of coupons/tickets and it's all the same?

That's the impression I got. But again, I don't know!

Have you called WDTC to check?

Figures...now I can't find where I saw it before. I found it just now on a site for a travel agent, but that may be because the agent's selling a voucher. It's also the case when you print the tickets at home, as you need to turn in the printout for the CityPass itself.

Guess I'll just play wait and see (the packet is supposed to come next week); I was just checking to see if anyone experienced it.

All you have to do is call Disney directly and ask. I have heard that you can use in any order that you wish, but I would call and make sure.

Well, here's the update....

I called, and the CM I spoke to had never heard of that. I played a bit of wait-and-see. Turns out the documentation showed up yesterday (a week earlier than expected - yay!).

If you're not familar, the CityPass comes as a book of tear-out tickets. The cover has a spot that gets stamped with the date of first use (as the entire CityPass expires within 14 days), and you have to hand them the entire book at the turnstile and let them tear out their individual ticket.

As it arrived, it is already stamped with the scheduled date of my arrival. As well, there is a ticket already removed. I presume this was the one for DL, as my package had separate 3-day hoppers instead.

If I had to guess, this means the book has already had its "first use," leaving me free to go anywhere I want. Perhaps what I had read referred more to if I had only received a voucher and not the book itself.

We also had a package like that. No one cared which we used or when.

But be warned...3 days at DL and 3 other parks could kill a weaker person. It nearly did our family, but we have a five year old.

And remember, both San Diego Zoo and Wildlife Center are built on the Grand Canyon (oops, wrong state!). But it did feel like it as we were hiking into and out of the park, which are situated on rather steep hills. It was our last day, so we were fairly out of oomp.
