I can turn into a tear fest at the notes of the songs like Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, America the Beautiful, etc... How about you, do you cry?

Yup, I can't get thru the National Anthem or Proud to be an american, without tearing up!

Some make me cry and some make me roll my eyes. There was no poll choice that fit my feelings. The eye rollers are the ones that seem to pander to drunks and their supporters. I love the classics; George Jones wannabees I can do without.

Darn, I don't know how to edit a poll or I'd add one just for you Shortbun.

This morning at a flag raising ceremony, we sang "Oh Beautiful". It got to me when we sang the words in the third verse:

"Oh Beautiful, for heroes proved in liberating strife.
Who more then self their country love and MERCY more then life!"

Made me think about our men and women in the service in Iraq and how thankful I am that they are merciful towards oppressed people.

Pretty much how I feel. Most of the "classics" will get me verklempt, but most of the cheesy newer ones (Lee Greenwood, I'm talking to you...) just make me want to yak...

:rotfl: I'm with you...

The only one that gets to me is Yankee Doodle Dandy...gotta love George M. Cohan and old Broadway tunes.

Dixie usually brings a lump to my throat. I like the Star Spangled Banner, especially the 4th verse. (If the other verses were more well-known, there would be lawsuits to change the National Anthem, because it mentions God.) I've always loved America the Beautiful and Ray Charles' rendition just brings it to life.

Some do, some don't. Depends on the situation. The songs played at the Memorial Day assembly this year at school got my crying. It was the first time that Memorial Day had ever really hit home for me, since my good friend has joined the Air Force and will leave for Basic in August. For me, thinking about that got me crying. So did "Proud to be an American", but only because they were playing it in a slideshow of pictures from Iraq (some of the soldiers who just returned were at the assembly to talk to us). When I hear the songs in an everyday setting though, they generally don't get to me. Like I don't tear up every time I hear the national anthem at a hockey game. It really depends on the situation.
