Do allot of people really get sick on MS?

You can not compare MS to a thrill ride like a roller coaster. MS is what is affectionately known as a "spin n' puke". If you understand how the ride works, it just spins you around and around either feet first or head first to simulate being raised or pushed into your seat. Everyone has seen these rides at carnivals and amusement parks, the one that does nothing more than just spins.

I am a roller coaster junkie and have been on every roller coaster from Cedar Point to Busch Gardens and have never gotten sick on any of them. But I must say my stomach was not feeling the best after ridding MS. My DW felt the same way.

If, like me, you can't handle the rides that just spin and spin avoid this one and go on Soarin, cause thats where I'll be. :teeth:

It really all depends on the person! I've only done it once, and I felt fine afterwards! (The only reason I haven't done it more is because I freaked out after the addition of "barf bags..." I am afraid of seeing someone get sick!) My sisters love it and do it multiple times, and my mom will do it once every trip because she gets headaches really easily. My dad has done it once or twice, but he gets motion sickness on certain rides (just a really bad headache for the rest of the day and a bit of queasiness). My friend did it on the last trip and she doesn't like spinning rides, but she really liked it! Nobody can really say how "bad" or "good" the ride is, because each and every person's body responds differently! I would say that if you're worried, take Dramamine before you go on, follow the instructions given on the ride (look straight ahead, etc.), and breathe normally...this will give you the most optimal chance to enjoy the ride without getting sick. (The spinning sensation of M:S is totally different than the spinning on the Teacups, because you can't see what's spinning around you on M:S...most people don't even realize they are spinning at all!)

I have only ridden it once and I saw TWO people dry heaving with their head between their knees (one of them was my DH! :crazy2: He's got motion sickness issues). I OTOH have never had motion sickness problems and felt awful after riding this. Needless to say, we can say we've done it once but won't be doing it again! Brutal. Give me Rock n' Roller coaster anyday!
Plus, as someone already noted, it's the only ride I've ever been on that had barf bags! :scared1: That should tell you something.

1st time I've ever seen someone get sick was right after this ride - they got off, saw the trash can, and made a bee line for it! The sound of someone getting sick does get to you..

well i absoloutly loved it, my mom who can only go on the tilt a whirl went on and didnt get disey. the main thing is that you cant tell your spinning it feels like you are sitting in a space ship. also if you follow the instructions of where to look like at the screen and dont close your eyes most do fine. but me being me i got on let it get started and about 1/4 of the way through i proceeded to close my eyes look side to side up and down and not at the screen and i was fine. :teeth:

My best friend and her 16-year-old daughter love those types of rides, but when they got off, both of them were light-headed, nauseated and just felt like crud. They will never do it again. Me, I won't do it because I know I will get sick - therefore I cannot speak from personal experience.

I made my DH (who NEVER gets motion sick) go on this first so he could tell me if he thought I could handle it since I have such a weak stomach- well, I made the mistake of waiting for him on the bench across from where you exit, and oh my gosh, the people coming off that were feeling very sick (throwing up, having to sit with their heads down, etc.) made ME feel so nausueous that when he showed up I was shaking! :rotfl2: And I hadn't even been on it! JMHO, don't sit in that spot while waiting for someone!

I am mildly prone to motion sickness (no teacup or spinning rides for me), but MS didn't bother me, and I rode it twice. The only thing I felt was a slightly off balance sensation - sort of like getting your sea legs after you get off a boat - when I got off, but nothing else. I was very careful do to exactly as the instructions said - keep looking straight ahead, don't look to the side, don't close your eyes, and breathe normally. I never actually felt like I was spinning - I just felt the pressure from the simulated g-forces. ThHe sensations were weird, but the ride was well worth it.

I TOTALLY agree. FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS. I can't spin; baby swing ride at Great Adventure got me sick. On MS you can't see yourself spinning so without the visual que you are "faked" into not knowing you're spinning. Its honestly the best ride I've ever been on!

DW rode it in 2004 and that is the first and only time I have seen her get motion sick. DS 6 rode it twice last year and DS wasn't even fazed and I REALLY shouldn't have riden it the second time. This year, DS is hoping he can talk his Uncle into riding it with him because no one else will.

I know several people who have ridden it several times in a row and never had any problems. A lot depends on your tolerance for that kind of motion. Like others have said, make sure and follow ALL of the instructions, it really helps.

I hate Mission Space, but mainly because of being so closed in on the ride. It is not for anyone who is even slightly claustrophobic.

When we first rode this ride we were not prepared at all for what it was and totally laughed off the barf bags. I was most uncomfortable with the small space I was in.

Mission Space didn't make me feel sick at all. Actually, right before we came to Epcot, I had four bowls of lucky charms cereal. :thumbsup2 I was a cereal-glutton on vacation cuz it's my favorite thing. I was feeling really full, undoubtedly, and wasn't sure if I should ride MS (I had never ridden it before), but the line was so short that I figured if I didn't ride now, I'd have to wait in a long line later on in the afternoon. I was a little apprehensive because of what I had read on the boards, but quickly I found myself seated on the ride with the hatch door closed. During the blast off, I honestly couldn't feel the thing spinning at all. I kept my eyes focused on the screen like gary sinese advised. I felt just fine aside from a few heart palpatations during the blastoff. Something that really helped was that they have cold air blowing on your face throughout the ride. When the ride was over I didn't feel sick at all. There was actually a cast member standing in the center of the centrifuge thingy when we unloaded, asking if everyone felt ok. I didn't see anyone around me who was sick. It was funny, actually, because when I left the gift shop and headed outside, there was a steel drum group banging away as loud as can be right outside the MS entrance. I suppose if someone was feeling ill, this wasn't a big help to them!

Dh and I love this ride! I'm prone to motion sickness, but this did not phase me at all. I wish it had a little more weightless feel to it, to me it's been tamed down a little too much. The teacups actually make me much more dizzy than this ride.

Agreed... Yes, I am claustrophobic and when they first close you in I thought I was gonna lose it. You are just siiting there in this totally confined space for what seems like an eternity. Once the ride got going the claustrophobic feeling subsided. It helps that they are blowing that cool air in your face.

If by "a lot" of people gettin gsick you mean me, then yes! But hte rest of my family isn't phased one bit.

There are motion sickness bags directly in front of your seat--it is easy to travel to Mars and discretely puck all the way back to Earth.

I must be lucky, because I hit MS after drinking at least half way around the world at WS and had no problem. I was a bit wobbly for a couple of minutes after we got off, but other than that, I was fine.

The part that *will* make all of you guys sick? After we rode MS we all headed to Club Cool because I wanted more Beverly! (I really, really *like* Beverly!)

I guess I have a cast iron stomach, because if 3 or 4 sippy cups of Beverly both before and after Mission Space didn't kill me, I suspect nothing will.

I do get motion sickness on rides with drops and coasters, but spinny rides never bother me.
