Sorry if this is a stupid question - being British it's unusual for us to see prices without tax but I know this isn't always the case in the US.

Allears specifically say on the buffet menus that tax is included in the price but what about the other ts restaurants?

Can someone also tell me how much sales tax on food is?

Thanks for your help

In general, no, the published prices at WDW restaurants do not include sales tax.

At all locations EXCEPT the All-Stars resorts and ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, the tax rate is 6.5%. At the two exclusions, it is 7.0%

The two exclusions are in a different county than the rest of WDW. There's a bunch of different stuff that I don't know that goes here, but suffice to say that Orange County (where most of WDW sits) charges a 0.5% tax on this part and Osceloa County charges a 1.0%.

Actually no restaurant menu will you see the tax included in the price of the meal. It only shows that on allears for the buffets on their website, but if you go to the actual restaurant, you will only see the price of the meal and when you get the bill, the tax will be added on.
It was nice when we were in England a few weeks ago that the price we saw on the menu was the actual price of the meal, very different from the states.

Wow! I'll be impressing DH with that trivia when we are there! Thanks :thumbsup2

Yeah I can't imagine anything else! You guys must get really good at calculating percentages in your head! :goodvibes

Thank you both so much for your help :)

Along with knowing that sales tax isn't included, I would suggest taking the base prices (along with the rest of the content) of menus such as those found on Allears as representing general guidelines rather than hard facts. Menus can change with some frequency!

We recently (last Friday night) found the price of the BOMA dinner buffet to be incorrect. Allearsnet posted the price of $39.99! It almost discouraged us from going but it's a family favorite. Imagine my surprise when the check for a party of 5 adults was $165 give or take a few cents; around $33 per person. YAY!

If you want the nitty gritty, ping Cheshire Figment. He's a former accountant and knows all the reasons why. Be warned, he IS a former accountant though ;).

As far as the percentages, most people just round. Here in Mobile, we had a 10% tax rate (an additional 1% tax recently expired, so now it's 9%) which made things quite easy. If it was $2.00, it's now $2.20! I typically still use 10% to estimate the cost of stuff here, and even down there if I have to. Simply because it's easy, and I find it better to over budget than under. Of course, if I have a few extra minutes, I'll get something closer to the real cost, but I am better with numbers than your average person.

Yep, many of the buffet menus at AllEars include the seasonal upcharges and then mentions that "Additional seasonal upcharges may apply" (well, not those exact words, but you get the idea). It drives me crazy that they can't keep it consistent even within the site.

At least for budgeting reasons, you should always assume that the price is before upcharge and tax, giving you a higher number to budget for. If it's less, great, but you'll be far less likely to be charged more than the budget.
