I don't think she said she did not give him the praise.
I think it is funny that men need praise over the yard. I give praise to my dh even though I have pointed out how many times each Sat he asks for it for the yard and we laugh about it (last week he asked 3 times how the yard looked!) I made a big deal over it today as it was SO hot out too. He has even taken PICTURES of the yard after he works in it!
I find it cute. I handled everything for the year he was in Iraq, but had to get yard service as I can't STAND working outside and 3 hurricane's were more than the kids and I could handle. I was able to do all his other chores.
No OP, your DH is NOT alone in needing praise!
ETA-DS, 15, is the SAME way when he has to mow the yard!

That is just SO true! And to answer your question, it is NOT just your DH, it's a guy thing! 
Not all men need praise after yard work, as I am sure not all woman need praise after they cooked dinner!
