I wanted to skip dressing up this year to ease the amount of stuff to pack and take across the country on a plane. However, my 17 year old DS said that was crazy and that we are all definitely dressing up. Well, ok then.
We have dressed up on both of our cruises. This last cruise, our dd(7) wanted to be a parrot. At first, I objected to her request until she said, "Every pirate needs a good parrot!"
We all received compliments, but most people were impressed with our talking parrot.
We dressed up and had other guests asking to take our picture! That made my DH feel better about dressing up and he now wants to 'add' to his costume to make it more authentic!
TBH I think my dh was convinced to go on the cruise because he could dress up like a pirate! He even wore the bandana we got on another trip when we actually went to the Carribbean (we had gone on the Pacific Coast Cruise).
It was so cute to see little kids saying "Captain Jack Sparrow!" even though DH's costume was really just thrown together the day before we left...we already had the dreadlock bandana wig from Disney and he had a white shirt, pirate rings (who doesnt, lol!) and luckily an old sheet was striped, so we went to good will and bought an old brown jacket that he shredded.
First time bringing my whole family on a cruise. We are all newbies. But I am definitely going to dress up for pirate night. It looks like a good time. This Halloween I better start looking for costumes
We didn't notice a lot of people dressed up on pirate night on our three night cruise. We didn't dress up as we already had plenty to pack into our suitcases. Didn't feel left out one bit. You'll have fun whatever you decide to do!
All nine of us dressed up on our last cruise, from 6 years old to 51. We took it a step further by giving away some of our plunder. (We're from Louisiana and brought plenty of Mardi Gras beads). It was our favorite night of the cruise.
About a year ago there was this really cool pirate exhibit at my local science museum. And afterwards in the gift shop I picked up a cool t-shirt that has a skull and crossbones on it and says pirate but it is spelled with the Pi symbol. Its perfect for my cruise and for a nerdy pirate.
